Danz, He is the one who loves ducks!! He isn't having a problem with them once we got them home

and...... we have plenty of room for them.

Ivy, I scrambled an egg this morning and mixed it with the chick starter and took the baby guinea out into a box and put some down and she went right after it. She loves it so I put her back into the carrier and put all the egg and some chick food onto the pan for them and the other guineas love it too. Guess I was just a nervous Nellie yesterday thinking she wasn't eating. Better quit messing with them and get off the computer so I can get ready for Bible study and church!!

Well I just forgot to mention one thing. I think Josiechick's husband is the perfect husband! Anytime she'd mention getting something he'd say "Okay, whatever you want." Wow! We could all use men like that except maybe Wichitakid, Pikeman, etc. You might want to not look that direction!

Sharol, I had ducks, chicks, guineas and those white crested black polish roos.
I apologizing for not taking more time to socialize. But was certainly glad to have sold what I did. I hate bringing a bunch of birds home.
Well turkey # 2 died late last night but the others seem to be doing fine....knock on wood. I gave them some chick starter while ago and thay seem to be enjoying more than they did the egg and chick starter.
I hatched 3 of the wild turkey babies without a hitch over night and they are running around acting perfect already. Just goes to show there's plenty to be said for diet. I have three more to go but have done nothing but just hatch them.
I've got to get ready for church this morning but am actually anxious to get back home and do my chores. I'm anxious to see if I can go through a little less feed. I still have as many pens but it's going to be nice to see that feed intake decrease.
This bug I've been fighting is finally catching up with me. I've been fighting the congestion sore throat thing, but now I'm coughing. I'm sure not it is a sinus infection that has just decided to make itself at home and grow in my pulmonary tract. It's probably just from the pollens that are active right now.
BTW KarenS, are you feeling better? I sure hope so.
And Prairie, I really am serious. You DO need to send that movie into America's Funniest Videos. I KNOW that would be a winner!

Yes, I remember those white crested polish roos. They were spectacular looking. You were busy at the time, no problem. I hope we can all get together in Emporia when everyone is feeling better. Take care of that bug.

I think we talked to you. My DH was quite taken with some of your birds -- not sure which ones. (if you were just to the left of Ivy (as we faced you from the lot) a little ways ) I recognized Ivy by the puppy (darned cute).

Maybe we can get together in Emporia some time soon for lunch. I'll be availble until the 6th and then after the 19th (daughter and granddaughter coming in from Reno for the Symphony in the Flint Hills).

So nice to meet you. I wish I could get together with more folks before I go back to work. I have a feeling my schedule is not going to allow much flexibility.

Danz- We were the ones that sold a buff silkie hen (I don't know exactly who we sold it to), and had a few started chickens. You were one away from us. We really like ancona ducks, but we decided that we were not going to raise another lot of ducks, just see if ours go broody.

Ahhhh... to that was you over there! Wish I had stopped to talk. Whether selling birds, showing off the puppy, visiting, or just trying to sit and get off my feet for a few seconds I really did manage to stay busy. If there had been more people there I can imagine it could get chaotic!

Oh good! I was wondering how he would do. They do love scrambled egg. I like to smash it up with a fork to make little pieces and they really take off with it.

Danz-Maybe the rest of those turkeys will turn the corner and be healthy from now on. I was just wondering if there is any kind of genetic thing that goes on with them since they are bred to be smaller... you know, like the lethal gene some seramas have or the "lethal white" thing.

Silkiechick, yes . Her new name is Bloom, from one of my daughters short stories she has written. She is doing great! Came right up to my youngest daughter for mealworms and waited to be picked up and cuddled. She is so sweet! She snuggled with our other two silkies and is staying close to them so far today. No squabbles. A few pecks here and there but I think they have figured each other out.

Can Black Australorps have copper neck feathers? I know that it is an undesirable trait, but for egg chickens, not for showing or breeding, can this occur? My mom has a BA and I just got my BCM, she noticed the copper coloring around her BA's neck and is now wondering if it is really a BA.

It probably is a BA. Sometimes you get genetic "leaks" like that. It's not that uncommon. Most chickens are mixed somewhere in their heritage, and sometimes these genetic things drag on for generations. I sure wouldn't worry about it, especially if you are jusst using her for egg production. I probably wouldn't use her for a breeder if you are wanting to raise BA's, though.

Ivy, our little wheaten ameracauna and Marans are both doing great! The Marans is fearless!! Very different from my other two who are very shy. She has taken to my kids really well and the dogs dont make her run for cover at all. In fact none of them have flinched at all, even with my big dogs walking in the coop with me. I am loving the colors in the ameracauna. I am a newbie of course, but the light green around her eyes and her light blue legs are so different . She is like a watercolor drawing come to life! I looked on the boards to see if I wasn't the only one struck by this, and I didn't see anyone else marveling at the coloring. I guess I am just weird OH well, it is what it is! I think it is beautiful!

I am so glad you like them. I think the wheaten hens are very pretty. They are actually some of my favorites. Marans hens are pretty cool, too. Mine are pretty calm, but like most chickens they don't care for a lot of commotion. Mine have never been prone to picking on each other, which is nice. Hoping yours turns out to be a hen.

As far as the dogs go, we have 7 dogs, and Britt, the youngest GP lives in the barn with them, so she is very used to dogs, cats and goats.
