KarenS, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Congrats on the egg too
I remember how excited I was when I got my first egg this time around. But what a great birthday present, wow!
I finally got my turkey pen done enough at dark to move the little buggers out into it, whew! That became way more of a project than I ever thought it would be. I still have a couple finishing things to do on it & the box needs some paint to protect it, but at least I got it done enough they could get out of that crowded brooder box. I put them in there & they kind of freaked, I don't think they knew what to do with all of that room. They are some dirty birds, but I don't want to get them wet right now for fear of them getting chilled. I hope they just get cleaned off in a dryer environment. I made that shelter box for them to get into & whoever said they think turkeys are claustrophobic must be right. They were actually afraid to go into the box. I had to coax them in there tonight. I didn't know turkeys hissed at you until tonight either, they were scared & they all were hissing at me.
My spider bite got worse again tonight. I don't know if it was because I put on my garden shoes & it was pressing on the bite or what but it spread all around it & it's burning just like it was when I first got bit. I soaked my foot again in epsom salts. Gosh it was actually looking better earlier today before I put that darned shoe on. I haven't been able to put a shoe over that since I got bitten. I guess I still can't. It sure is smarting now, I hope it calms down again, ouch!
I have about 15 eggs in the hatcher & 3 have hatched so far, 1 Ameraucana & 2 Welsummers so far. I haven't seen any sign of pipping as of yet on the lavender Orpingtons, come on little chicks! I hope to at least have some hatch. That will be the pits if none at all hatch, they weren't that cheap to buy the eggs. They're not actually due to hatch until tomorrow, these ones that hatched today are a day early. I seem to always have some Ameraucanas hatching on day 20. I should have my 2nd batch of Peacock eggs arriving in the mail tomorrow too. I sure hope they make it here all right, we'll find out. I had the one lady come today to pick up her 6 Ameraucana chicks she had asked for & she had all of her kids with her. The one son shows Mini Rex rabbits & he wanted to see mine. He also is going to show the Ameraucanas he's getting too for 4H, so that will be fun for him.
I'm just done in tonight, my DH was sick last night & coughed a lot of the night. I didn't get much sleep & then had to get up earlier than usual for this woman to pick up her chicks. At least she comes when she says she will. My son was supposed to come today, but I told him my DH was sick & so he didn't come by. I think he did go see his daughter though. I was sort of disappointed that he didn't come by here at all, but I also know he didn't have much time in town & is starting a new job so he didn't know when he will get back. I don't get to see him much any more since he moved to OKC.
