Well Josie I'm not much of a chicken selling machine these days. Just got a call from the guy that was going to buy the 20 hens. He says he still wants them but not right now. He just lost 5 hens to the heat and doesn't want to add a time bomb until the weather cools down. Actually I'm a bit relieved. I wasn't looking forward to chasing and caging hens in this weather. I might sell them but I don't want to kill them attempting it. I really hate to be poking more food down them though in the meantime. There's nothing much to eat here. The grass is turning crispy.
Most of my chicken sales is just by word of mouth. I've not sold a single bird using the poultry swap site. I guess I just don't live close enough to anyone to have them buy from me. I really do get tired of adjusting my schedule for cancellations though. I just pulled the rest of the eggs anyone was sitting on and put them in the incubator. I have a few dozen in there now that will probably ened up being a bunch of roosters. I put my 3 peacock eggs under a silver Pheonix hen cause she was sitting and seemed interested. I'll have to watch and see if she stays with them for a while. They may not be any good at this point anyway. I figured it was worth a try any way.
I used to advertize on craigslist quite a bit but it's not getting the results I would like. I get more people bothering me who really aren't interested than real buyers.
I am ready to stop hatching until fall. I never get tired of seeing chicks hatch but it's just pretty difficult to keep every one going in this heat.
I just fed back all the fresh eggs I gathered.
