Yeah those darker brown colors especially, I refer to as spray paint. 'Cause it washes off easily. But people do love that brown color. They often associate it with a richer egg but I've never seen any evidence to that.
I don't have any blue egg layers in chickens. But my button quail laid blue eggs. They often turned out brown or green or speckled. But if you broke the egg it was blue inside. I always found that kind of cool.
I don't like producing white eggs at all. It seems they stain so easily and seem so plain. I like eggs that say... this is a home grown healthy free range egg.
I just got a message that a couple people were wanting ducks and pullets. Maybe I sold too fast and too cheap. I really don't have any young girls to sell right now unless I could catch a few of the wild ones that would have a couple more months until they lay.

HEChicken, I'm no expert, for sure, but from what I understand you should get brown and/or olive eggs. Should be interesting to watch for. The leg color thing is really interesting because I've had combinations of leg colors on the same bird! So odd. Like one leg is white and the other yellow. On one of my lav Orps, the legs lean toward gray with them lightening down to their toes, which are white. So, as far as being able to predict color, I'm lost.

I've been gone for about a week on a work trip. Got back late Friday evening. I took my desktop computer with me and just got it set back up this morning. I was WAY behind on reading...

I've got a little bit of a problem on my hands. I had arranged to pick up 5 khaki campbell ducks from one seller and one white chinese goose from another on my way home from my work trip to Eastern KS. Both sellers were in the Topeka area. I picked up the ducks first and then went to get the goose. I had told the lady selling the geese that I wanted a female white chinese goose. I also mentioned briefly to her how to tell a male from a female. She locked them up the night before I came and then got to looking at them. She thought that they were all males (all 30 of them), so she let them out BEFORE I ever got the chance to look at them myself. She then called me to tell me that she thought she had only males. Well, I REALLY needed a female goose to be a companion for the goose I currently have, so I was willing to take other breeds. I never told her that because I thought she'd keep ALL of her birds locked up. Boy, was I wrong. I spent 2 hours trying to catch her geese, with no luck. They kept going back to the pond where they felt safe. I ended up leaving without a goose, and got home a lot later than I had wanted to (it was a 7-8 hour drive). Now, I'm back home with no plans to go to Eastern KS again in the near future and still need a goose. My DH's grandmother has geese and would be willing to loan me one, but her geese are white chinese and are strictly utilitarian and are never handled. I would really prefer one that is friendly, especially if it is a chinese as they are the ones that are known for being aggressive. Does anyone know of somewhere I could get a female goose in the Northwest KS/Eastern CO/Southwest NE area? or someone that would be willing to meet me to sell a bird?

Thanks Karen! Oh - and here's another genetics question for anyone who knows: since an EE is technically a "mutt", does an EE roo over an EE hen produce another EE?

Lizzy that just sucks! I can't believe someone would expect you to catch her geese unless she gave you fair warning. I'll keep my eyes open for you. I just don't know many peopel out your direction. Have you ever driven over to swap meet they have in Manhattan at the TSC. I think quite a few people go there. It's a good time of year to pick up a bird since most people downsize in fall.
Heather, I would think if you have two EE's as common as they are, you are still going to get an EE. The difference might be some physical characteristic might be missing or show up. Like muffs, leg color etc. Just my guess. The offspring probably won't breed true to the parents but I still think it would be considered an EE.

Lizzy, that sucks, after you went to all that trouble to make the arrangements to pick them up, too. Sorry I can't help as I have never had geese and know nothing about them. Have you tried the Facebook swap page to see if you can find one that way?

Also, how did your processing day go?

Just posted a few pictures of my silly peachick. He was sitting on my lap trying to type for me, but then decided to jump up and eat my hair. He's getting huge and very spoiled!
Had to put him down when he turned around and pooped on my legs though!!!

Awww Danz, he or she is adorable! With those dark eyes though, I wouldn't call him albino, but just a white. A true albino would have red eyes wouldn't it?
