Consolidated Kansas

Thanks for all the support. Still having moments which I'm sure I will for a while. My one chicken that was pretty hurt didn't survive the night. Now I'm down to just 1. She is somewhat out of sorts and alone so I'm looking to re-home her. She's a blue laced red wyandotte right at 25 weeks old. She does have 1 small bite mark on her back & a few scratches, but she doesn't seemed bothered by them & I don't know how to treat them. If anyone is willing to adopt her I'd appreciate it. Just send me a private message & I'll get back with you.

Here is the last photo of Betty that I have so you can see what she looked like.

The shampoo I used was a deep rich royal purple. I cant think of the name of it right now will look here in a little while.

WichitaKidd, so sorry to hear of you chickens. I have only had mine for a month, and I can't believe how attached we already are.

We had a weasel or raccoon come into our duck pen a couple years back, we were fortunate that we only lost one, and two others were pretty badly injured, but they survived. I do remember how shocking it was, can't imagine it being so many of them.

A big place like Wichita has so many lose animals. I know ac tries, but cannot keep up. I think it should be like in Minnasota all pets must be spayed and neutered. Any animal coming in must be spayed and neutered. Sorry wichitakidd. I lost many years ago my turkeys that I had raised too dogs. It was a small town in Ok. but did not make it any better, and when I called the law. they were standing there and the dogs came back. yeah they took care of the problem.

WichitaKidd, I'm so sorry to hear about your chickens, how heartbreaking! I do hope you'll consider getting some more since you have that beautiful coop & the dogs are now gone. I also had losses right in the beginning last year from a raccoon & possums. It was a rocky start for this round of chickens, but I kept getting more & built more secure places for them to sleep at night. I also got my Great Pyrenees pups after that so now not much gets in here without them seeing it. Unfortunately with all of the predators of chickens it seems like it's just part of it all to have some losses at times & it's hard after you raise them from little chicks. It's bad though that you had to lose yours to dogs that weren't supposed to be loose anyway. I will be hatching quite a few breeds of chicks hopefully in the spring, so if you wait until then to get more you might check with me, I'm not that far away from you.

Danz, have you heard anything about your cat this morning? I hope she is doing better.

Teresa, I meant to say I was sorry to hear about Jasmine's reaction to the keets. I don't know enough about how their doggy minds work to offer any kind of explanation or advice. Isn't it funny how they can be so accepting of one bird and react so differently to another bird of roughly the same size and mannerisms? Does she respond when you scold her "no" by dropping the keet? Was she there when you released them, or did she come by later and think they had escaped perhaps? Maybe she was just trying to round them up and help you get them back in, thinking they weren't supposed to be loose?

She's beautiful! I don't need her, but if you can't find someone to take her, I could. Maybe someone will want her/need her, though. Again, soooo sorry!! :(

Yeah, I'd love to know what you are using! :)

UGH, there is nothing I hate more than dogs on the loose!! My neighbor has two that I keep thinking I'll shoot. I never do, but it's just going to take one day for me to snap and I'll be out tossing their bodies into the back tree line.

That is a great idea! You do have a lot of great breeds over there!

X2-- I'd love to hear an update on Tyggy. :)

Busy morning already. Took my middle child to the Eye Dr, and he needs new lenses. We were changing them out every 3 months, but he made it to almost 6 months before he needed a new set. He is under the care of a Dr, so we are not neglecting him. But he failed the Kindergarten screening they had a few weeks back. I had to explain to the school, he's going to fail them no matter what, anyway. But because of that, I was still forced into having this form from the State filled out by his Dr that proves he is getting care and the most recent eye exam (that we did this morning). Sheesh. I understand they do this because some parents don't get care for their kids, but what a hassle for us when we're already aware and it's a problem that can't really be fixed right now, anyway.

Last night, I rechecked all of my bumblefoots and most of them are healed up except the one that is still hanging on. I had been giving her penicillin injections, but those ended a couple weeks ago. She is a *bit* better (not worse) but I started injections again last night and I'm crossing my fingers I can get this cleared up. I think the penicillin was working, but because I was so paranoid about using it, I think I stopped before I should have. Going to dose her up well this week and pray that gets it!

I need to mow today. I'm sitting in here because I've already run errands this morning and been into Derby, down to Mulvane and then out to Clearwater. Now I'm home again and feel like I traveled cross country already this morning. Sigh. I need to get out and mow!!

Lots of post so sorry if i forget anything

Danz how is your cat today? sending lots of hugs and prayers

Wichitakidd sorry to hear about your birds. I would love her but i think your are way too far from us.

sunflower it's good fern is getting better she may need to take it easy for a few days

I hope everyone has a great weekend my Dh comes home tomorrow from visiting his ill father in Florida.

HEChicken, yeah who knows what a dog is thinking, but in the end she did end up with a bird both times & maybe the same one twice. She did not stop when I yelled repeatedly at her, the first time she went over to our old truck sitting out by the new coop & laid it down & the dogs were arguing over it. The 2nd time she ran from me towards the fence line & didn't stop until she finally dropped the bird when I told her to drop it. She absolutely knew she was in trouble because my DH saw her up by the house later & she looked sad like Uh Oh. I may want to get a shock collar & try that with her. I don't think she would be hard to train with one if it worked well enough.
