Consolidated Kansas

Karen I ordered them from here:

If you want one or two I'd be glad to bring them down if they come before our get together. Did you order Cream Legbar chicks rather than eggs? At least you know if you have boys or girls that way. I'm trying to hold out for Rhodebars.
I've been busy this afternoon. I put a new tarp on the turkey pen just in case this next cold front causes another storm. Then I took the better tarp that was there and put it on the PVC duck pen. Of course the darn thing didn't go on neat and tidy like the old one was but at least there is a cover on it. I also drained, cleaned and re-filled the Mandarin pond. All along I've been sure I had 3 females and 2 males in my baby Mandarins. Instead I have 3 males and 2 females. The males are beautiful but it's going to be a lot harder to sell just one boy than a pair.
My boys got their new feathers in from their molt and they look gorgeous again. This years' boys are just getting theirs. They will be really pretty before long.
I also am sure that at least two of my pheasant chicks are males. One of them is a red golden and one is a Lady Amhurst. They will be gorgeous birds but I need girls- not boys!!! I already had one extra Lady Amhurst roo I need to sell.
I was planning to buy a couple more red golden hens this week but the way things went I never made the trip.

Thanks Danz, for the offer but I'll order my own -- you're too kind! I appreciate the link. There were CL chicks on the BYC swap so if the hatch goes well I'll have 6 girls and 2 boys! Woot! I do think the Rhodebars are prettier.

My lovely nest boxes :) The plan is to build another set of 3 on top of these early next spring.

Lookin' good! Feels great, doesn't it?

Sunflowerparrot, the nestboxes look great! I use a ceramic egg that I got off of eBay, they're really inexpensive. I know some people use golf balls, but my chickens just kicked them out of the nests. Your little white hen already kind of has the idea since she's been practicing sitting in the basket, just make sure you take that basket out & show her the nest boxes instead.

KarenS, I didn't know you were getting Cream Legbars, are you planning to keep all the ones that hatch? I may need another pullet to go with my set if you end up with an extra you want to sell. My one little pullet rallied today, I was so happy! I hope it wasn't just a fluke & she's worse tomorrow. I decided this morning to put her back on the Tylan & maybe it's finally helping her I don't know. I put the ones in the grow-out pen back on it again too. I just have to get this stuff cleared up.

This afternoon was really busy. I had volunteered to go help with the fund raiser book sale at the library here & went at 3:00 & was supposed to only work an hour, but it stretched into almost 3 hours. My feet were hurting by the time I got done, but I came out with 4 bags of free books to show for my time, so I guess it was worth it. They have a sale every year to raise money for the programs at the library & different things. The lady who was in charge of the sale is a friend of mine & she told everyone in there to come back at 5:00 because at that time all the books that were left were free. Since I was there for 3 hours I got to look while I worked & found a few more books that I hadn't seen yesterday evening when we went for the private members only sale. So now we have bags of books sitting on the floor in the diningroom waiting for us to find a place to put them. We have books all over the house in bookcases everywhere & in the storage room. We both read a lot & love books, so we just collect a lot of them. In our office upstairs we have almost a whole wall of bookcases that go almost to the ceiling that are full of books & more bookcases in the stairwell & downstairs we have several all around. We both got Kindles over a year ago & we use them, but we still read books too. We have some that we collect too. Then after I left there I still had to go buy groceries & that took another two hours, so it was dark by the time I got home & the dogs & cats were still waiting to be fed.

You know kids are excited when they rush to meet you before you can get out of the car!! The egg hunt was productive again today and our first EE to lay has added a light sage green egg to our egg basket of light brown, pink, light blue and chocolate brown :)

Just poppin' in to say "Hi!"

Nice job on the nesting boxes Sunflower :)

Mediawinks, that's cool that he was so excited. I love when the kids get excited ^_^

Verna, missed what happened to your cat, but it sounds like the outcome was not good. I'm so sorry for your loss. I love my kitties and not looking forward to losing my old man (17 this year).

Umm....I didn't even try to get through the 500+ posts I missed. Anything exciting?

Got some chickens sold today and made my feed money for the month.
Had 8 Blue Copper Marans chicks hatch Wednesday and Thursday. All already spoken for :)
I have 9 more in the incubator due in about 18 days and possibly already spoken for.
After those hatch, I will put in another set to keep...maybe, if they aren't wanted immediately. Otherwise, I'll just keep hatching! (Oh, darn...not hatching. Oh no. lol :p I love hatching!)
If anyone is interested here's my page link on FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/TwoChicksKansas

Rob, how's the little girl doing? The boys are doing great. I love the fluffy tops on the two mixes and that little black one is now named Raven. The other guy is doing well, too :) He's always the first to come running at feeding time.

Making winter preparations around here. Need to get a few more pens figured out to get my breeds separated.

My ducks are laying like crazy. They are more reliable than any of my chickens at this point. I had a BR that started laying, but she stopped. Only one of my bantam Cochins are laying and two of my reds are laying intermittently. I hope they get on the ball soon, I need EGGS!

Looking into buying a wafer thermostat to build my own cabinet incubator or hatcher. I have a cabinet that I picked up for free and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, then saw some home made 'bators and decided it would work for that or hatching, if the egg turner doesn't fit.
I've had pretty good luck with my little styrofoam jobby from TSC. had 100% hatch this last time and 62% this spring (my first successful hatch). Hoping for at least 78% out of the eggs that are in there now.

Other than that, it's life as usual on the farm. Loving this cooler weather, but it is definitely reminding me that winter will be here before we know it, so it's time to get some stuff DONE around here!

I did go back a couple of pages, just to catch up on the most recent happenings.

WichtaKidd, I'm so sorry to hear about your birds :( I hope you will still hang out with us here and try again in the spring.

Verna, So sorry about your Tyggy :(
Also, thanks for posting that link. I think I will be buying a case, too. I love those kind of traps, but never realized a person could buy them by the case (duh!) The mice are already getting bad around here. I think because there is nothing in the fields here that they want to eat and the chicken feed has probably drawn them in.

Josie, omg! I'm glad I didn't see that post. How RUDE! Some people

Tweety, AWESOME puppy!!!! I worked at a vet hospital in Denver, Co and had a client with a Presa Canario. That dog was MASSIVE...and the BIGGEST teddy bear you could have ever met. I loved that dog! He was bigger than me all around!

Okay, that's as far back as my poor lil' eyes will let me read.
We have a storm that just rolled in. I wasn't expecting that! Woo Hoo!!!

Of the 3 Rhode Island Reds I purchased as pullets... well, I am positive 1 is a roo and pretty sure another is too. Of the 7 EEs I purchased, I believe all 7 of them are hens :)

So - if anyone on here wants one (or both) of my little RIR roos (about 4 weeks old), you are more than welcomed to HAVE them... let me know. Trish already gave me an awesome rooster that I'm in love with :)

Anyone...? *batting eyes sweetly*

Congrats on the new egg. Are the kids disagreeing on who gets to eat it? No eggs from Feather yet. She went on strike but she is still talking non-stop.

Good to see you back on here. I hope you aren't working too hard!!
Those mouse traps are awesome. Just as long as the mice keep loving my bait we'll be in good shape! I'm ready for the others to get here so I can really eradicate some mice. I might even try one in the house just in case. This time of year they seem to want to move inside.
I'm just kind of dazed today. I think I need more sleep.
