Darn it! I had a whole post ready to go and my computer decided it had to restart! Anyway, here goes again.
I don't understand why people are always making such a big deal about chickens in towns and stuff??? I mean, the dogs are the ones up all night barking at who knows what, annoying me to death. I, personally, find dogs barking way more of a nuisance than a hen clucking or roo crowing... i understand the rule about roosters, because of their early morning crowing, but dogs can be dangerous/harmful to our flocks and friends. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like i hate dogs, i just wish that people would hold themselves accountable for them. and i dont find the smell of chicken poo any worse than dogs... i think people now-days complain just to complain... sorry just letting a little of my chest... haha
I feel you on this, our neighbors in Wichita used to have three dogs next to us and six dogs behind us that barked all day and all night. The three were right under our bedroom window too, drove me nuts! And I don't know how many times we almost got attacked on walks with our dogs by other peoples loose dogs.
KarenS, yeah you know how it goes, we just go get what we want wherever we have to go & don't think twice about it. Had I known he had made such a mess in the car you can believe I would have cleaned it up before my DH saw it, but I didn't have a clue about it. Of course my DH would point that out first thing when he got in the car. It's totally a different story if he does something to the car, like he ran up on the curb at a restaurant in Kansas City when we were up there & made a big scratch on the bumper in front. But that was an accident he says, oh & I just had the peacock poop on the ceiling on purpose, yeah right.
Hahahaha! Pea poop on the roof, that is impressive, he must have been doing some acrobatics on the way home.
Silkies are sooo precious when they are broody! I love their growls and when they raise up their feathers when you get near them! hehe! The only thing is, I am constantly trying to break them from being broody so they will keep on laying. I hope your DH will be fine-- very scary about the rash/possible spider bite. Did the Dr think it was a spider bite, or was he not sure? Glad he got on the antibiotics either way! There was obviously something there that the body was not happy about. So FUNNY that he is milking it. LOVE that! Just made me laugh! Exciting about the possible new car! We've gotten 2 new cars since we've been married. If you can spring for it, do buy leather! Cleans up soooo easily and there have been so many times I have thanked the fact that I can take a wet wipe to the seats instead of a steam cleaner! Also, a tip for you-- the Magic Erasers that you use for your kitchen and bathroom??? That will take out marker, crayon, and about any other stain I can think of. Even when you've tried everything else, that Magic Eraser ROCKS!! Another thing is-- when you have to clean your seats or are wiping up a spill, it's immediately dry after you're done. With fabric seats, you're sitting on a wet seat for a day.
Of course, I have kids, but I'm sure if you keep this new car long enough, you will too.
I am excited, I think we may be stuck with cloth because the leather makes the price jump quite a bit. I was thinking maybe I could do a neoprene seat cover in the back for little ones and that might help cut down on the mess a little anyway. I LOVE mr. clean magic erasers. I discovered them when we bought our house in Wichita and had white cupboards that showed everything and no amount of cleaner seemed to get them white. They are amazing. I always have some in the house. They have special shower ones now that I love too!
Josie, Well I'm glad it was OK, but it did aggravate me that someone had to write that & I did amend the first rule on the site because of it. Some people on the site saw that & understood the meaning of it. All of us on this thread know that you wouldn't place your dog somewhere she wouldn't do well. It looks like you're getting rid of some birds on the swap at any rate. Yes, I do think part of the problem is that the guineas are so excitable themselves & you know how they make all of that noise when they're excited. They were so excited to be out to free-range & I have no clue what Jasmine had in her mind, but it was just too much for her at least that time. I'm going to get a shock collar & try some training with her & I think it might work if I keep at it. She's a very intelligent & sensitive dog & she knew she did wrong after she did it, I just think she was too tempted with all of the noise the birds were making & they haven't been out before. I'm sorry about your DH's bite, I have heard the brown recluse are especially bad this year. Good luck on your vehicle search, it's so much fun to get a brand new car. Ours is already starting to get dings & things happening to it & my DH was not at all pleased with me to find out I brought a peacock home in it. It wouldn't have been so bad, but he got upset on the trip home & splattered poop on the ceiling of the car. My DH was very upset with me over that & I didn't even know it was there until he pointed it out.
I think it all worked out ok but I do appreciate everyone getting on and being supportive and positive. A lot of farm swap members had kind things to say as well which was nice. I just wish if she had a concern that she would have sent me a private message first to ask the questions instead of posting it for everyone to see and possibly scaring people off.
If you use a shock collar on Jasmine I would highly recommend setting the zap higher than you think she will need. When they are on an adrenaline rush chasing something it takes more juice to make them stop. I would rather go too high and have them yelp than lower and have to keep turning the collar up while they are still chasing. They learn better if they chase and then get a bite from the collar that stops them in their tracks. We learned that with Lucie while training. And those pyrs can be hard headed!
My turkeys had their first time out of the pen this evening and did really well. They spent an hour out before voluntarily returning to their pen. Ned Kelly, the jake, gobbled and displayed (the first time I've seen the latter) and Madge went for a short flight down the yard. They both made lots of vocalizations, ate tons of greenery and ran around a bunch so I think they really enjoyed being out. I was so glad they went back in voluntarily as it gives me hope they will transition well to free-ranging with the rest of my flock and going into the coop with them at night.
Oh how cute, aren't turkeys funny to watch run around! They are quite athletic.
Josie I so need to buy a new car. I just hate the idea of making payments. I live in fear of being in debt of any kind. I'm also tired of driving old junk. The last 3 cars I bought I paid cash for. I just can't afford to do that right now. I used to be good at saving when I had a job. Not so much now.
I have a ton of babies in my incubator. Mostly red star eggs but a few others. They hatched yesterday and the night before. I guess I need to set up another bin in the brooder house for them. I think these came from a couple piles of eggs that DH found in the barn. Not an intentional hatch but gobs of them.
I had another 11 mice in the trap night before last. And DH said it was full last night but Cloud decided she wanted to play with it and drug it into the yard and released all but 4 of them. Dumb dog!!! DH had taken it into the old garage and of course the dog probably thought it needed to belong with her treasures. I think I am going to bite the bullet and order a case of those traps. I have one of them spoken for already. But I can use most of them myself.
It's unbelievable how many mice there actually are.
I had sat a regular mouse trap in the basement probably a week ago and there has been no activity. Last night my oldest cat came up from the basement with a mouse in his mouth...complete with the trap hanging from the mouse. I should have taken a picture. He was so proud of himself.
Oh, I know, I hate having payments too. But I do sooo much driving that I really need something safe that gets good gas mileage. That is funny about the dog and the mouse trap. That cat is too cute, maybe that is what I need to do! Set traps to "slow" the mice down for our house cats!
I just ordered the case of traps. They are only about $10 each by the case which is about half price. I may have to tether them down to keep the pup from dragging them to her treasure pile! Of course it won't totally irradicate them but by golly I am moving some out of here. I figure this one trap has paid for itself in 4 days time. I was using buckets of bar bait without results. That trap sounds interesting, Heather.
Josie I forgot to thank you for the chuckle. Men are like that!!! I do hope your DH gets better.
He will be fine! He works everything for all its worth, I get tired of babying him but I know he appreciates it. He is also a bit of a hypochondriac so he always thinks the worst will happen and it never does....
Well another gorgeous day today! Have lots to get done outside. I have a couple people in theory to meet tomorrow with birds if the turkey people get back to me. It feels good to lighten the work load out there. I miss having time to spoil the ones I have. I used to cook oatmeal and veggies for them but there are so many that I can't do that anymore. I want to get back to being able to treat them like that, they love it so much.
