No time to read much.... I need some me time!!!:-(

However I am coming to you all in need of creative inspiration- of which I know you all have :)

My youngest is bound and determined to be a peacock for Halloween. I can make her a tutu with a leotard, but she wants a head piece and feathers. I did not find any at Michaels. Does anyone know anyone on BYC that sells feathers? Etsy was pricey!!! I also have no clue about a head piece..... This school year and being so short staffed is leaving me with very little energy for my kids and even less creative energy :-(

Are you looking for tail feathers or any other kind of feather in particular? About how many? I'm sure most of us on here would be willing to send you the feathers you need. My turkeys are in molt and I've seen a lot of feathers around that are quite long, mostly white with black tips (they are royal palm turkeys). I could gather up some of those and send them to you if they would work...

Medawinks- Have you checked ebay, I just looked and they had tons of auctions with free shipping and like 30-50 pea feathers for like $5-$8 which I thought was super reasonable. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=peacock+feathers

Hi everyone! I started a multi post last night but lost it and was so tired I just went to bed. Hope everyone is well and those of you who are sick take care of yourselves!

Lucie came home Thursday night and is doing pretty well. She has started licking at some of her road burn wounds and I can't seem to keep an e collar on her. I am also taking her out every 4 hours to walk and up at night and the wee hours of the morning to do her pain meds. I am just wiped. It is nice that it is raining but it makes it hard to sling walk a dog because she hates thunder. Overall though she has been a trooper. Eating well, drinking well, taking her meds and trying really hard to get around. She was so swollen the first 24 hours that she had a terrible time doing the stairs but that is getting better too. Well we have a ton to get done today and I am sure the rain will only slow us down so off to be productive!

We got tons of rain here in Lawrence as well. Went to bed and it was raining, woke up to even more. The thunder has been outstanding! (I love listening to thunder!) We are under a severe weather warning for this afternoon too, so looks like I"m not going to get much done outside.

Never caught a possum last night, but i'm assuming it was because it was raining so bad that even it didn't want to come out in this weather. We'll be trying again tonight. DH said that he wants to leave that trap out every night from now on until we are sure there aren't more of them. Such a sweetheart to care about the chickies as much as I do.

Hope everyone can get something done today!

Edited to add: Josie, I'm so glad you got lucy home and she's doing fairly well. I was thinking about her last night.

Medawinks, my bad, I totally spaced that you are looking for pea feathers! I will have a look at our barn next time I'm there. Our resident peacock went through a molt and we were finding his feathers everywhere there for awhile but that may be mostly over by now. If I find any, I'll collect them for you and let you know what I have. If you can use them, great - I'll send them your way.

medawinks, my peafowl are too young yet to be losing any feathers, but I agree with Josie to check eBay, they usually have a lot of those kinds of things on there. Any more that is just the first place I check if I'm looking for something because there isn't much you don't find there. You just have to know prices before you go to know if you're getting a good deal, but that's pretty much the same with anywhere.

My DH just left for Wichita & I stayed behind to rest, I had a pretty rough night last night with the head cold. I had to prop myself up on pillows to be able to breathe. I managed to go out & get my birds fed, but I need to give them all fresh water & am hoping maybe I can talk my DH into doing that for me later when he gets back. It's been raining off & on all night & morning here & it's a muddy mess. I guess we're going to make up for no rain this summer all at once. I hate that my birds in the grow-out pen are having to stand in a soggy, muddy mess but there isn't anything I can do about it right now. At least they have a roost & dog house to get up on & in to get out of it. The turkeys have a fairly dry pen in the back half & they also have their roost to get up on. We have a small storm coming through right now & my chickens all ran for the coop, they don't like to be out when it's raining hard. If it's only sprinkling they don't mind it, but hard rain they want to get in out of. My DH went out to put the cooler in the trunk before he left since he is getting frozen stuff & meat at Sam's & saw the two little guineas going into a feed sack I had sitting in the garage. He knew I had been trying to catch them & said one fell into the sack & the other fell into the water so he grabbed the one that fell in the water first & then got the one that fell into the feed sack. I guess they were going to help themselves to the feed. That explains why they weren't starving, geez. I'm so glad he caught them though & now they're out in the pen with all of the rest of the goofy birds, minus the one the dog ate. Sunflowerparrot let all of hers out to free-range totally & they're getting big, but she has some that are slightly older than the ones we got together & I now have 3 ages of them in my pen. I do plan eventually after I get the dogs trained to leave them alone, at least I hope I can train them, to let the oldest ones out to stay out unless they want to come back into the coop. They're all pretty happy in the hoop coop with the peacocks, they seem to get along just fine.

tweety, keep after that possum or possums, they will come back when they know you have birds to eat. I no longer see them here with my GPs here now. I used to see them all the time at night right up by my house & garage. I just hate those critters, they have long teeth & they hiss at you besides the fact that they ate 7 guineas in one night last year. That was the deciding factor for us to get the GPs after a raccoon attack & then the possum attack I had just had it with the predators. My neighbors had fox & coyotes eating their chickens all the time until they finally got a little coop for the last 5 chickens they had left & shut them up at night. I haven't asked them if my dogs are over there at night too, but I imagine they do watch over their place too.

Thank you HE and Josie! Like I said my old brain is in slow gear today! I had looked up a peacock costume and freaked at the prices for them. We found something at hobby lobby and a dance leotard at dance class. Big sister is going to make the tutu and mask :)

Yes- she insists on being an indigo blue peacock :) I wonder why :)?

I haven't been on in a while. Fall is usually a busy time for the family. DD has rehersals, DS has soccer, DW is head of make-up for the theater company DD is at and I have Fall recruitment for the Scouts.

I hope everyone has been well and that your flocks have been well.

The girls are getting along well now that the rain and cooler weather is here. Molting is in full swing at my place! Even with the light inside the coop they are still in full molt. On a sad note I lost one of this years hens to an owl two nights ago. This is the second year in a row this has happened. It was on a night I had a Scout meeting and had to leave the house early. So, now every evening as soon as it starts to get dark I am shooing the girls into the coop. I told my DW that I would think about replacing the hen with some Spring chicks. I will see how the rest of the winter goes.

Arkansas City, KS - Someone is wanting to give their female Great Pyrenees a country home. The dog currently lives in the city and really needs a country home. I do not know much about the dog, other than it needs a home so it can do what it was bred to do. You can contact Paula here on facebook with any questions. http://www.facebook.com/paula.murphree.75
