Oh how sweet Sharol!! I just love those newborns, there is nothing that will compare to one!!! Congradulations to all!! Wow, sure is a whopper, looks have growed already!!
My boys are fighting too. DH said he saw one girl get bred. These are my midgets and they were hatched in May and June. I sold my extra Eastern and blue slate Tom so there hasn't been any fighting in their pens. The Toms are flirting a lot though.SO my tom turkeys are fighting like its life or death and I noticed my hen submitting near them and rubbing on them and doing a dance around them, could she be going to lay and egg for fall??????
I've got a cochin hen limping really bad and I haven't been able to find anything wrong with her at all. No swelling, no sores, nothing. My favorite hen, Scout (Golden Campine) appears to be hurt. She isn't using her right leg and when I pick her up it just hangs and she doesn't seem to have any strength in it. She was fine just a couple of hours ago, so I'm guessing she may have caught it in something and pulled a muscle or nerve. She doesn't seem to have any pain when I move the joints or put my hand under her foot to push it up toward her body (when she is in a football carry hold). I have her in the house in a dog carrier for the time being to protect her from her "friends."
Anybody have any ideas? My vet says he will see her tomorrow morning, but that he doesn't really think there is much he can do. She will either get better or not.
Other than the weakness in the leg, she seems to be OK.
Anyone have any suggestions? Would Vitamin E help?
To make matters worse, I'm flying out to Reno to see my new grandson on Thursday.
Awwwwww! I really want a grandson. I only have grand daughters so far. I'd love to have one really close so I could play with it.
Those blacks are fabulous, LOVE the crest on that pullet and that boy's shape is stunning. Never mind finding pure blacks, that is nearly impossible!!Danz-- YES!!! Josie's little girl won 1st place in her class. I really should have specifically said that! I think I even have a picture of her in her cage, too. I'll hunt it down and post it! I showed her in the Open class, and they don't get ribbons. Which is a bummer! So I kept her coop card, instead where he wrote "1". I may let Colter do a bunch more in Juniors-- they get super awesome ribbons and awards!
What a PITA about the company cancelling. I was telling my story of our friends who cancelled two weeks ago and I bought those pies-- which, BTW, were NOT cheap!!! -- I was soooooo angry at them. I'm glad I didn't answer the phone, I would have told them how let down I was and how I had bought the pies and on and on. My DH just told them no problem, and that was it. UGH. And it was such a big deal for me. Sounds like you've really been put out, too. I love CraigsList because I can get things sold-- but I totally HATE how people are so irresponsible and don't call if they decide not to come. I do what you said-- I will rearrange my day so that I can be there for someone to come buy a bird or whatever. Annoying.
It did make my day! I am glad you asked for me, I was afraid she did poorly and I almost didn't want to know. There is some stiff competition at those bigger shows and you never know what the particular judges are looking for that day.OH, and I wanted to post pictures of my new blacks that I got. The breeder I got them from does ONLY black X black breedings. That means they are "clear" and have no splits in their background (like to lavender, paint, or whatever else people are doing to blacks now). They are HARD to come by. And they are costly when you do. She never sells eggs or chicks, only started birds or adult birds. So I think the boy is about a year old and the girl is only a few months old-- still a pullet, not laying yet. SO excited!! I'm now into blacks, which is something I've wanted to be in for a while now, and it's never worked out.

We are glad you are here too! Isn't everyone on here awesome? I love this thread, everyone here are my friends. I post on other threads but often feel like I don't belong or just flat get ignored!!Nice new birds.I'm so glad Josie's pullet did well. I know that will make her feel good!
I don't think I could handle the showing thing. Too much work and in my case it would be stress. I've been sitting here reading Craigslist adds. I really need to get some stuff sold but hate to take the time to put an add in. It would so help if I lived closer to a city.
Ahhhhhhhhh!!! I LOVE him!!! What a precious little boy, and I love, love, love the name Benjamin. He is a moose!I enjoy this thread, and I'm very happy to have found it! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming on this thread. I've learned from some of the other threads, there are good people on all of them. It does seem like some threads have a bully who kinda makes for a negative environment. Some threads I don't have much in common. This KANSAS thread is awesome!
Congrats! I think .223 are perfect for coyotes. Make sure he gets you a good scope! A shovel? You are a brave one!We did get two guns purchased yesterday. So I am the proud owner of a Savage .223 and a .22. No more messing with coyotes after I get some good target practice in!! DH says I have to get good during target practice with the .22 before he will let me blow through ammunition on the savage!!! I am so over chasing chicken eating varmints with shovels.
