H everyone! So my 6 month old Light Sussex hen laid her first egg 2 days ago (and hasn’t laid since) and my rooster also mated her twice in that time. Now I’m noticing her doing constant, short bocks that shake her back and bottom and she is doing it a LOT. Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks!

Some pullets and hens are noisier than others.

Ok. She hasn’t done this before though
Neither has she laid eggs before. 👇

She's maturing and coming into lay. Some pullets find their voice at this stage in life, it's all new to her too. She may eventually calm down as she gets into the routine of laying eggs, or she may do this all of her life, time will tell.

Update: she laid her second egg after doing the clucking thing for about an hour so I guess it meant she was going to lay!
Congrats on the 2nd Egg!

Sometimes they cluck before an egg.
Sometimes you may have one that just clucks.
Sometimes you have one that clucks after an egg.
Furthermore, you may have one that clucks before and after an egg, this can go on for hours. Yep. Hours😵😂

My first started laying last Monday. At first, she did a purring, trilling little song followed by three clucks, before, during, and after. Her two flock sisters, not yet laying, sang the same song at the same time, but MUCH louder and with a lot more bawks. (No eggs from them yet; they’re just excited aunties.) Now, a week later, she hops in the coop, goes about her business maybe with one small bawk, hops back down and out, and resumes hunting for whatever they’re hunting without any more commentary.

It’s a mystery!
