constantly broody cochin

Well I have a 2 year old amazing beautiful white cochin hen. She was a pretty good layer her first laying season last year. Then she went broody, and has been broody about 5 times now all together. I have forced her to stop the last 2 times, and she lasts about 2-3 weeks and then broody again. I'm getting frustrated with her, but she is the sweetest chicken I've ever had. Not sure how to solve this issue? Anyone else have this problem?

Hi there, Newbie here...lol
I dont have any advice...sorry....I actually have a broody silkie(my first time) but Her, I dont know. I was wondering how you got your chickens to stop. I got her 2 months ago, shes about 1yr old. It will be 3wks this sat. I make her get out once a day to eat and drink. I know the process is 3wks or 21 days or so, but Im worried about her. I have read some very drastic measures taken to stop the broodyness, but when do you step in. Thx for any advice...Sorry I cant help you Good luck

Cochins can be broody - you can either embrace the broodiness (it can be helpful even if you don't want to hatch eggs as you can use her to raise purchased day-old chicks with a little luck and timing) or you can find someone who wants a good broody and trade/sell her off.

Okay, really.

Some birds just have the hormones to be mommas, and there's not much you can do about it. You can continue to break her each time, or you can let her brood. Or sell her and let someone else decide. There's not a lot of other options.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just going to let her do her thing. I really love her. She is the only one out of my flock of 11 hens that greets me everyday, and loves when I pretty her. I just get a little worried, last time she lost all of her feathers on her lower chest, and her legs. It looked painful. That's when I decided to break her for the first time. I'm sure she'll be fine though. Again thank you all for your input.

Xoxomyladees well to answer your question about how I break her from being broody. It's very easy, I just separate her from the flock, and don't have a nesting box in the other spot I put her. That doesn't allow her to get into any nesting spot and in about a week she is no longer broody. I kind of feel bad doing it, but it has worked very well the last 2 times for me. Problem is she goes broody again within 2-3 weeks later. That's why I'm just going to let her stop on her own. Hope this helps a bit.
