Constipated chick

i have a one week old chick who is constipated, she'll chirp and it's obvious she's trying to push but can't go. She's strained so hard that her little rectum is slightly descended out. She's not pasted because I can see some poop when she pushes, but she just can't relieve herself. I've wiped her off with a warm wet paper towel several times & that makes her want to try to go but she can't. Anyone know what else I can do?

Good Afternoon Lmonette, I don't think it would hurt to dip your Lil' chicks bottom in some warm water and massage the lower abdomen and rectum, a small amount of olive oil on her bottom may help also. Usually constipation is a sign of dehydration, I'm about 140 miles east of you here in Georgia, and I know how hot the weather has been already, you might add a small amount of sugar or apple juice to the Lil' chicks water for a few days, this could encourage more drinking.
