My chick is 5 days old, we picked her up from the hatchery yesterday. She had some pasty butt yesterday which we took care of, and I clipped her fluff around the vent. Today she seems to be bloated under her vent, it is definitely soft, not firm, with what looks like prolapse.

She is still running, eating, drinking etc. but does seem a little wobblier than the other chicks and often stands still as if she is trying to poop but cannot. I have soaked her vent in warm epsom salts water and applied a little olive oil to her vent earlier. This is what she looks like after her bath, before her blow dry. I’ve also been putting probiotic in her water and she’s had some nutri-dense and egg yolk today. I think I’m going to try Monistat. Any other suggestions? Thank you for your help!

She might respond to a few drops of olive oil mixed in some egg yolk or mushy chick feed. Is she eating and drinking? How hot is her brooder? Her swollen belly could be constipation, but it also could be mushy chick disease.

Thank you I hadn’t heard of mushy chick disease. She is still heating and drinking and her brooder is 95deg. I’ll do more egg yolk today, she loves that and her dry food but couldn’t get her to eat mushy chick feed
