I have a ramp to the nest boxes and the coop. I recommend a way to get the eggs without going in the coop. I have my feeders, waterers and nest boxes where I don't have to go in the coop or run. That may not work for your design but it has been great. I did not do that with my breeding pens... just could not.

You can put your (the chicken's) nest boxes 6 inches or 6 feet off the ground... as long as they're lower than the roosts.
I told the wife just the other day " next tornado i'm going to the coop." its made from 4 x 6's i reclaimed from a pallet i got near my work. it also had 2 x 12's on it but i broke them all trying to get them off the pallet because they were nailed with atleast 10 nails in each 4x. so something like 60 nails in a 10 foot 12x. I still plan to deck the roof and walls before my galvinized roofing goes on & the lap cedar siding goes on. i also have some 8" x 38" & 7" x 30" pieces of glass i plan to make windows from.
I have plans to build atleast 4 maybe 5 nest boxes ( anyone know how far off the floor they should be?) i plan to make a side door that will open one whole side for clean out. i need to figure out the coop door ( have ideas in my head i just havent got to them yet). When i started this whole thing i had ideas but no real plans i just looked at what materials i had on hand and worked with them. I'm in a holding pattern till probably next weekend. any input on things i might want to consider are appreciated.

4 of mine are covered runs so water (55 gal barrel with nipples in all 4 runs) and feed are all on an interior wall of my, call it a 3 car garage, center garage. My feeder holds at least 50lbs in each run. My breeding pens all the feed and water are in the coop out of the weather (yeah right with winds blows in rain). I will try to find pictures for you.... I am having computer issues so it may be later tonight.
