Today I received a five-month-old Maine Coon cat that was 'finally' able to be flown to me from its breeder in the South Island because of the Level 3 lockdown ending. I didn't realise how stupid of an idea it was until I actually received the cat, and I regret buying it, but at this stage it is highly unlikely that I will be able to get rid of said cat.
The cat's litter box is in the same room as my only remaining chicken's (five- or six-year-old mixed-breed hen) food and medication. The litter box is on the floor, but the bags of food and medication bottles are not. Even so, is it likely that bacteria from the litter box will contaminate the chicken's supplies? What about bacteria from the cat itself; will the supplies be unsafe to use if the cat touches them?
In case anyone asks, the cat is going be kept strictly indoors, so I am not asking about the safety of letting a cat go near a chicken.
