Ended Contest #15 Flapper Contest for the 2014 Easter Hatch-a-long!

Here is Rudy at 2 weeks today, practicing his wing flap.

That's not a naked neck that's a naked Chicken

Rudy's parents are both naked necks, however he is scaleless. He got a double hit of a recessive gene, he will always be featherless. He is my miracle chick. I did not know I had two carriers in my flock so didn't know he was a possibility. His hatch was shrink wrapped badly and almost all had to be assist hatched. He was shrink wrapped but not quite ready to be hatched when I had to open his egg. He had a massive abd hernia, and was extremely weak. He needed major bandaging to allow the hernia to mostly repair itself (still is healing from that) he needed tape shoes so his feet would be normal, and he needed leg hobbles for very weak legs, plenty of rest time (3 days). Then he needed supervised reintroduction to his hatchmates who were a little to curious in his weakened state. Also he needed hand feeding and watering for nearly 5ish days then he was strong and able enough to do it on his own. Now he is fiercely independent and does everything his hatchmates do.

He was an awesome "gift" after my flock was decimated this past fall by a preditor attack (assisted by humans)

He is going to require some accomidations but I think I can make most of them and allow him to have a pretty normal chicken life (or she depending on how he develops)
