How Many Prizes Do You Think Contests Should Have?

But then again, how many contests really need quality? I mean,
Poll: How many of you give eggs to your neighbors, and how many eggs on average?
3 winners get a prize. How much quality is needed? and if you did lie about it, how would I really know and would it impact anything?

For answers that actually do require some intelligence and not just a 'mee too' where's my free stuff, then better prizes possibly could get better answers but.... if I just 'mee too' that and the prize is randomly choosen, then good or bad effort, it's still rewarded. If the quality of the input were to count, as points or something towards highest points wins a prize or some sort of grading system, then absolutely that would help get better more useful stuff.

However on the edge of that rock, how much time do the prize givers want to spend grading answers? If the contest is just supposed to be some sort of quickie, fun, give away some stuff, then why make a job out of it?

Define the objective at the beginning of the poll, what you are looking to get out of it, then go from there. Each is unique, what might work for quick giveaway, won't really for something where some real knowledge is needed.

I would think if there were fewer prizes the quality of the entries might improve. Why put much effort into it if you know you'll likely get a participation prize regardless :idunno
Probably not. Lately, I've been looking through all of the past contests to get an idea of how they were run & how many entries they had. I can see no correlation between the number of prizes and the quality of the entires.

A photo contest needs quality.

We don't give prizes for polls.

I do not mind rating all of the photos

Random draw contests are not judged.
Define the objective at the beginning of the poll,
You keep using the word poll. Do you mean contest? If you mean contest, we try our best to outline what the contest rules are. And when it's a judged contest, we almost always show pictures of the previous year's winners.

The only contests that require real knowledge are the article contests. Photo contests, those require some skill.
