OTgator- No shows yet. We thought of going to the fair but the summer was just too crazy and I couldn't take the time. If we get to keep him that long,
I'll try for next year once he has his full plumage. I fully expect the chicken police to come a knockin' one day and then Lafonda will have to go to the adoptive family farm that has claimed him for anytime in the future.
For now though, we're so glad we get to keep him too! He is the funniest rooster I've ever met. I don't know if its a silkie thing or what.
The other thing is: he is not interested in our silkies. He only wants the standard hens. Our poor silkie girl Desiree runs around throwing herself down at his feet, but he just brushes her by. Unrequited chicken love is a sad thing to behold.
If anyone wants more details on how we made the box PM and I'll give it up. We should have done a step by step...I know there are some concerns. For now its a $30 solution we can live with, will have to just keep a close eye on the situation and adjust as necessary. We looked around at wired devices with actuators etc. We are not that smart
and the budget is thin. If anyone has ideas that are nearly free to enhance the design or if someone else builds something similar that works better please link back here so we can check it out!
