This is a trap I use for catching large amounts of English sparrows. They transmit diseases to your flock as well as lice and other kinds of little creepy crawler.

If you spend this time and money to get rodent proof feeders, you solve this problem "and others" for good.

Does it allow captured birds access to food and water? If I were to set one up, then a lot of cardinals and other true sparrows would be caught as well.

So... what do you do once you catch them? Invasive or not, they deserve a humane death, and I don't see any way to get them out without them all escaping. Seems like chopping off all their tiny heads might be a bit difficult, too.

Popping heads off is easy. Some use scissors.

Ah, that'd work. I was picturing the traditional cartoon axe-and-stump setup, sort of jokingly.
I wonder if there's any use for that many dead sparrows? They're one of the few birds you can legally possess in the US, being invasive. Art, I guess. Throw 'em on an ant mound for awhile 'till they're clean bones, gather those up with tweezers, leave 'em in the sun 'till the ants leave, and voila.

My only modification suggestion would be some kind of padding around the rim of the lid. It'd be a shame for a bird to get smashed as the door shut.

Feed them to your local American Kestrel if it is tame enough to come in. I had one that would come in to collect mice at my feet.

Chickens eat them too but that will not forward your biosecurity efforts.

You can feed a local bird of prey? I'm jealous. Get some pictures!
Could also bury them in a compost heap, or just toss 'em into the woods somewhere, albeit where nobody would find them and mistake it for some kind of budding serial killer thing.
