I thought this was amusing, so I will share. Hopefully a few of you will get a laugh before the post is lost in the melee:

Conversation with my little 5 year old neighbor girl:
Hey, Debbie, can I hold the chickens today? (yes, the chickens let her hold them like they're babies) "Sure, come on over"...Hey, Debbie, have you named them yet? Me: "noooo" So she proceeds to name all the chickens but I tell her not to name the young cockrel (rooster) But why? she asks. "Because he is mean and I am going to eat him for dinner when he gets big enough" Hey, Debbie, he should still have a name until then! so she names the rooster.....Hey, Debbie, when are your chicks going to hatch? Me: in a week or so... she then looks at me sideways and says (while squeezing my Buff Orpington like a doll), "Well if you have too many chicks, will you give the extra to me?" Hmm...I said, "I don't think your mom would like that" She streaks outta there calling over her shoulder "I'm gonna go ask her!!!!" (I think I might be in trouble with the neighbors)

Hey, Debbie.... That's pretty cute. As she gets older she may turn out to be a great helper. I don't think you will be in any trouble with the neighbors. Hand them some fresh eggs and let them know their daughter doesn't need chickens in her own yard because she can come over and visit chickens in your yard.

Quote:Perfect suggestions! She is already a great helper! Just the way she tames the chickens is amazing to me. She just expects to pick them all up and carry them around, and they flock to her. If she sits down, all but the cockerel will get in her lap. It's a sight to see! And she's not afraid of getting pooped on! :)
