OK, I'm 16 wks ...am on my last couple days of Chick Feed. I'm almost out of Chick feed and my options are the 5lb bag for about $6.00 or the 50lb bag for about $12.00

Should I buy another 5lb bag of chick feed to hold me over to the 18 week mark or should I go ahead and convert to adult feed and buy the 50lb bag.

Adult feed? Do you mean Layer?

You have a choice. You can continue to feed any number of kinds of feed. Grower, Starter (non medicated) Flock Raiser/All Flock and offer calcium source, like shells, on the side. They pick them as they need them.

Layer isn't anything other than regular feed except that it has the calcium carbonate ground right into it. At 16 weeks, your birds would be just fine switching to Layer.

OK, I bought Purina Layer crumbles and the bag is making me feel bad. It keeps repeating to only feed to 18 + week old pullets. I'm on 16-17 (closer to 17 wks) ..it will be 3-4 days before start the Layer. But they sure grill the 18 weeks.

Its fine. Really. As Fred said, another option is to use grower formula and offer oyster shell on the side for any who start to lay and need the extra calcium. But I would not hesitate to put a 16-week-old on layer feed, so you really don't need to make another trip to the feed store
