Converting a chicken coop to a quail run

At my old house this was my chicken and duck coop and run. I had it taken down and took all the materials with me.

The pieces laid untouched for a long while. Modifications were made to make it lower. There were a few hiccups in trying the put everything back together but it’s finally up and ready for the quail.

Still have to do a few things, like adding the people door to the coop, but they are in and loving it.

I love your set up.
How is it working out for you now?
Did you end up putting a roof/covering the run area?

So far it's been good except for the tiny opening between the wire that the quail found and slipped through while flushing. It was on the roof part and only about 2.5 inches wide but somehow 4 of them managed to find it before I realized how they were getting out. It was only by chance that I saw how the last one got out and was able to fix it. There were two layers of wire but the end of one wasn't connected to the other and they were slipping between. Never would have thought they could fly in at that angle.

Other issue is snow blowing into the coop. It didn't really fit back together that well so there are larger gaps then I'd like. I think I'm going to build them another small box to go in the coop so they have a smaller area to huddle if they want.

They really do seem to enjoy being out there. Right now the grass is brown so I can't tell how it's doing but I'm hoping a good amount of it comes back. I'm worried it won't get enough water with the roof. I may water it a few times to help it grow. The grass does make it a bit harder to clean out since I can't really rake it up in big sections.

The roof closest to the 'coop' is covered in grey/clear policarb roofing. It helps reduce heat from our intense high altitude sun while not making it too dark. The rest of the roof is covered in hardware cloth. It's pretty messy looking now that I've used a bunch of odds and ends to cover every single tiny hole I could find but that's better than losing more.
