Converting Predator Carcasses into Chick Feed

I trapped a raccoon last night, and neighbor brought pellet gun over and killed it. He lent us the gun to use in case we catch more, definitely going to buy our own now. I am not interested in doing a maggot experiment tho. So the raccoon got a tractor ride to our back 40 pasture and was left as an offering to the scavengers or a warning to other chicken killers and tomato stealers. This one has killed its last chicken.
Thanks for telling me that pellet guns would be sufficient!

Oh man this picture just kills me.

That raccoon looks so scared, and I can’t imagine having it trapped in a small space and then shooting it. I can only hope it had a quick and painless death.

I know I’m a big baby when it comes to this stuff, but that picture just broke my heart.

At Wolfefarmyard - it just breaks my heart when I find my hens torn into pieces, as in a leg here, a leg there, here a part, there a part. Torn.... ugh!

No absolutely!

I love all my birds to pieces! And no way would I let a predator hurt them! I just prefer to predator proof everything or trap and relocate the predator.

We relocate them far away, where there’s no way they’ll be able to find their way back and they’re far from anyone else.
I do not know where there are people that do not have chickens or some crop like sweet corn the raccoons like to pillage. Additionally, the relocated animal may not stay where I might drop it off, as it might try to find home causing other people aggravation along the way.

Trap and kill is the approach relevant to this effort. Discussion of alternatives better elsewhere.
