My dad saw sex links, and we

couldn't help but pick them up. We got one with severe pasty butt, and the one with the fattest head. Also thought I would share that there was a bin of 60+ cockerels, some bloodied and beaten. Finaly, Laia is in there because Tino nearly severed her comb last night, so she lives there now.

I was wondering... Someone said that they breed in single combs to their Wyandottes to increase fertility, I was wondering what breeds they mixed in?

Easiest thing would be the single-comb "Wyandottes" that show up in hatchery birds. Or single-comb ones from anyone else that already has the gene in their flock.

Once you have the single comb genes in your flock, you will sometimes get birds that show a single comb.

A male who is pure for the rose comb gene is less fertile than other males. If he has one copy of the rose comb gene and one copy of the single comb gene, he still shows a rose comb, but has normal fertility. So in a commercial setting (like a hatchery), the males who have one copy of the single comb gene will sire more chicks than the males who are pure for rose comb. And when their sons and their daughters are crossed, some single-comb chicks are produced. Trying to completely breed OUT the single comb gene is quite difficult, if you're working with large numbers of birds.

I won't try to breed it out, I don't have any rose comb females, unless this one is a female, I can breed it with my light Brahma cockerel. I'm still pretty sure its a cockerel, his wattles are pink and hanging down.

It sounds to me that you have already decided and know its a Cockerel. So, Im not sure why your asking.
It's to young to tell.
Send pictures in 4 weeks.

Ok, I can do that, I'm not really asking any more, it is what it is and I've done all I can to help the flock. I was undecided and leaning towards cockerel when I started this thread. I'm more posting updates for anyone who is curious, and for people who read these threads for refrance. My family is really liking Penguin any how, he is the nicest chick we have ever had. I've already forgiven him for jumping on my head, and pooping in my hair before I could get him down.

Update on this little guy. Still leaning towards cockerel, 5 weeks now. His 6 week old brahma brother is 100% a little dude. ( I accedentily delegated the pic without the edit, sorry)
