Convincing parents for a ferret?

How on board are they on with the idea of getting a ferret? Maybe a powerpoint or google slides presentation might work? Or maybe you can show them cute ferret videos. You also should prove that you can be responsible. Good Luck! Hope you get your ferret!

If your parents don't want to let you get a mouse, they aren't going to go for a ferret. Ferrets need large cages and time outside those cages, are destructive, and smell. Bad. Females must be speyed before they go into heat or they can die of it.
Another thing to consider; how old are you? Is college in your future? What are you going to do with your pet when you go to college? Dorms don't let you keep mice, let alone ferrets. You'll be lucky if they let you keep a decent-sized fish tank.

Maybe you could get rats? Kind of in between mice and ferrets. Bigger than mice but with a lot of personality, they are like dogs lol and they usually smell way less, especially if you get females or have the males fixed, and you can teach them cool tricks lol plus they’re not as long lived as ferrets in case you go to college or something but still decently long lived.

I'm not trying to discourage you, so this is just me and my life so far. I had a ferret when I was a kid. it was wonderful and a handful and really requires daily attention, like a sugar glider. I did not give it enough attention and it eventually escaped. they are deserve to be the focus, like a dog and if you truly have the energy to sustain the focus for years, they are amazing. now that I am a parent, we have allowed many pets into our home and I have discovered something I did not have as a kid that I really wish I did. we have fallen in love with rats. they are so smart, affectionate, seek human interaction (way more amazing than mice, girdles or hamsters... X10!) and can be "worn" on one's body, worn in pouches, on one's shoulder, etc. they are, in many ways more rewarding than ferrets, IMHO. seriously the coolest pet so far that we have had.

I too vote for a rat. They are like little dogs. Smart, affectionate and they really prefer to be with you if they are handled a lot and bond to you. You say you have a Guinea Pig, do you keep it's cage spotless? Do you spend a lot of time with it? That's the best way to show your parents you are responsible. Also, you can help out with your little brother. If you offer to keep an eye on him, so things like scattering the chicken feed, don't happen, then your parents might think you are mature enough to handle another pet. Help with the chickens too. Please do consider how long the pet will live, and what will happen to it when you leave home. Don't put more work on your parents, that's the best way to get them to say NO.

Ferrets are amazing pets, but do need to come out for playtime. I used to let mine out typically twice a day, as she was always ready to run around and was up/awake almost ALL day (so I found out the "ferrets sleep 18+ hours a day" isn't necessarily true). Nowadays they mainly come out once a day, because I work a lot, so have less time. I guess at this point, it works out, though, since my ferret is an old girl now, and actually does sleep a lot more than she used to. But anyways, if your parents won't let you get a mouse, why would they let you get a ferret? Ferrets also need a high quality food, and that stuff is expensive!, and the bags aren't very big, and the cages can be expensive.
Anyways, I don't think you need anymore rodents/small-and-furries at this point. Just be grateful for the pets you have (OK, okay, so I'm one to be saying that! ).

If you have the opportunity, consider volunteering at an animal shelter, pet store or the local zoo. It sounds like you love animals, but no one can reasonably care for every kind of animal all at once. Sometimes it's enough just to get the chance to spend time with them for a short while, get to know them, learn about them, and then let someone else take them home to give them the care they deserve.

Great suggestion!!! I love birds, and before hubby agreed to get chickens, I volunteered at a local wildlife rescue center. I got to feed the hundreds of baby birds in the nursery! On occasion, I got to feed the raptors. It was a fantastic experience, and I wish I had the time to do it again! My free time is spent on chickens and work, now. I miss it dearly....
