Just wanted to post pics of the cool new gravity feeder I made this weekend (with the help of a creative Home Depot guy

It's a 6" diameter x 3' tall ventilation pipe attached to a cap (used upside down) that has four "troughs"... Perfect for my little flock of four. It stands on its own but will need to be secured to the wall or the floor because the pipe part makes it a little top heavy. The edges of the cap area really weren't all that sharp but knowing that chickens have a penchant for getting into trouble I decided to cover all of the exposed edges with duct tape just to be safe. I figure it has a volume of about 2.3 cubic feet but I have no idea how much feed that translates to.

I'm looking forward to getting the chicks out into the coop to see how it works but that will have to wait another day or two until the rain subsides so I can finish up the last little bit of construction!

I'm hoping the edges are ok... The double layer of duct tape seems to have done the trick but I'm going to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get any nicks. I am definitely planning on covering the top but I haven't figured out what to use yet. I may leave that one up to the bf as he's ridiculously handy and I'm sure he can devise something that will work great

Also, I forgot to add that it cost around $16 total which wsa quite a bit less that the 4" PVC pipe feeder I was going to make.

If you feel that the edges are to sharp you could look at home depot for a plastic hand saw blade cover like the one in this picture and just slide it over the edge. You may want to glue it into place I would use Waterproof Tightbond Polyurethane Liquid Glue.

Thank you for the tip! I might go ahead and do that just to be on the safe side!
