coon invasion

I figured out the trap wasn't working. I returned it and got another one today...its already bated and outside waiting for its first victim.

So I just went outside to peek at the trap before going to bed and the darn thing tipped the trap over and got the bait. So I rebaited it and put cinder blocks on each side and a big brick on top.

I swear I will get this darn coon....I WILL WIN!

got one!!!! About a half hour after I reset the trap last night, he fell for the banana.

but gathering from the footprints on my deck this morning he's not the only one.

Now you have to rinse and repeat several more times

I put stakes down through mine to keep them from flipping it or draging it around. I put cinder blocks in the back & one side to keep them from digging for bait. I put a home made bird trap (cloth hardware) on the other side to keep them from tripping the trap from the outside.

I had one the other night trip the trap before it got the bait & about tore the trap up trying to get the bait.

I have cough one coon & one opossum so far in the last few nights.

I caught one in our attic last year (what a mess that was!!) and she dragged any and everything she could get her paws on into that cage. Plastic trash bags, silk florals, string, ribbon, you name it. Needless to say it all went with her.

got another coon last night. both that i have caught bend the crap out of the plate that they step on that triggers the trap closed. i was able to fix it after the first coon but not too sure now. what traps do you all use? i can't afford to keep buying traps after every few coons.

I've been lucky they only tear up the plate that guards your hand at the handle. No big deal as far as the trap goes but I don't trust it to protect my hand anymore. It is like a piece of ten foil.
