LOL I caught a cat... I left the trap at the house with soft cat food, and caught that rather adorable black and white (with a bib) feral cat that has been hanging around with Spots and Smokey. I set him free this morning when I found him, he was not at all mean he just want to go lol. I'll set it again tonight and see what I get this time!

I've caught all of ours. A good spray with the hose while they are stuck in the trap usually works in discouraging them from coming back in there!

You are much more forgiving of the cats than I have been. I've caught two cats so far. One of which before I set the trap, I witnessed him through the kitchen window killing one of my quail, and he came back and killed another later. They go straight to the humane society. Cats are pretty good at luring quail to the edge of their pens and then biting their heads off. I had one hurt quail in a hospital cage on my back porch, the cat further injured that quail to the point where it had to be put down and eaten for dinner. (the quail, not the cat....)

If the bait from the trap is gone, you have a smart coon on your hands. Next time try digging a hole in the ground where the trap is going to go, make the hole about 2" deep and about 4" in diameter. Place the bait in the hole which can be anything, bacon grease, marshmallows, hard or soft cat food or even a sponge with anise oil. Place the trap over the hole and make sure the foot pedal is over or near the bait. Take some concrete forming stakes and pound them in the ground on the sides of the trap, or take something heavy and place it on both sides of the trap. The coon will not be able to get at the bait easily and will more than likely set the trap off trying to get the bait.

I dislike coons very much, and i am not to keen on feral cats either. They both dont leave the trap alive.
