Turkey Guru I like the H... of your posts but, are you sure you're not exagerating just a little? Pulled the hen through the wire like a french fry cutter? Hummm...now that's hard to imagine.

Predators are basically lazy. They will take the easiest prey first, so if there is not enough easy food for them, your poultry will became a target. Not only a raccoon but many other predators, can tare through chicken wire very easily if they want to but most won't unless it s easier for them to do that, then grab some other food.

So even if you live near wild areas you may never have a problem, or you might, it depends on the circumstances of the moment which is nearly impossible to predict accurately 100% of the time. The same can be said if you live in a town or city.

You can take two main approaches, do nothing until you loose a bird, which may never happen for most people. Or build some defenses to keep predators at bay.

Large dogs help keep all sorts of predators away from your poultry just by there presences. (Her name is sissy girls because she gets spooked easily and barks)
Use welded wire for any outside enclosure or runs. ( We don't except for the turkey run)
Put your poultry in coops at night. (we try for the Chickens but sometime some slip through and spend the night out)
