Coop 99% done!

Not much done last night.. girls painted some more trim pieces.. and the DOOR~!!! Our chicken castle is really starting to come together now! Everyone is getting excited. It is supposed to rain this evening so no work tonight. But Saturday will have the poop doors done, the interior painted white, and the roosts up. It will be ready for the girls (and Jaws) to move in as soon as they have their full feathers. That brooder is getting mighty crowded.

One thing we did.. and you all will have to tell me if we were just being goofs or not...

You will notice there is a lot of red on the coop/run. When we first put the birds in the brooder I noticed that they would peck at anything red.. paint on my hand etc. Then I noticed that all of the stuff made for the chicks was red. The bottom of the waterer, the plastic food trough. Basically anything the birds were supposed to peck was red.

So, in order to keep the birds from pecking on the wood inside the coop, there is nothing painted red on the inside where the chickens can get to it. It is all a nice soothing blue.

I am either a genius or a crazy guy with chickens. I am still waiting on the verdict.
