Coop build, moral support needed

you guys are just what the Dr. ordered! I will definitely keep you posted. I'm generally an optimist. Melabella, you made me laugh! That was me last night. I gave the kids money to walk down to the little Italian pizza place at the foot of the street (key word MONEY, it's not just coop building supplies but time lost in the kitchen!). Built the garage enclosure, threw a dress on and sandals before I went to the school, making a sandwich and eating it in the car with seltzer in a coffee mug on the way. During the school evening I looked down at my feet and noticed the sweet PDZ dust on my toes...the bag had ripped when I moved it in the garage, swept it up but not before dusting myself.

DH works 2nd shift, a decision we made back when the kids were little to keep them in our care. I generally get to my corporate job at 6:30 am, get home 3:30 - 4:30. That means if I build then no dinner cooked. I do look forward to getting back to providing more for the family!!! Meals especially. I too feel like I lost the whole Summer AVintageLife! What a wonderful thing that you got to build with your daughter. Congratulations on making it through it! I joke with DH that this is my mid-life crises project. I wanted to build something permanent. If I had known the time and cost I would have purchased a kit like the Schoop. Oh well, never mind. The weekend lies before me....

Yes, it's striped. Wider unstained cedar next to narrow stained pine.


Shed is now stained pale gray to match house :-( Purple with a striped addition was too much.

Wow. I am impressed. First off, take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back.. It looks amazing. It will happen, soon and you will be so proud that YOU did it..Your girls will be around for yrs --they and you will be able it enjoy for a very long time.. Welcome and congrats.. I love the stripes, really really looks great. And no, I am not through yet. This weekend we still have to finish the hoop run and I still haven't figured out the nesting boxes even though my babies will be 16 weeks old tomorrow. I want to go to a chicken swap this weekend but I'm afraid I won't be able to resist brightening up my flock. I will stay strong, focus on the run, dream of eggs and adding to the flock next spring. Yesterday when I got home from work, I let them out of the coop and then headed to the garden to pull some carrots. Midway across the yard, I looked back and realized they were following me, just cracked me up. So I led them to the garden and they had a great time picking through what's left.

Not as much progress this weekend as I had hoped. Kids brought the 1st virus of the season home, I was wiped out. Got a window installed and figured out most of the trim. Thought about how to attach the hardware cloth over the windows...you know, the problem solving can take as much time as the doing!

But I did get the girls outside Sat and Sunday. Saturday I set them up in my fenced garden with my sheltie in there mostly as a visual deterrent to anything in the sky. They all did fine. Yesterday I was dragging so i put a beach chair in the sand box, a 14 x 14 chain link dog enclosure installed by the previous owners and hung out with the girls for a while. They don't like to be caught and moved so the sooner I get their digs done the better! My sultan, the littlest, fit through the chain link holes and was found once on the other side. The dog and I got her back in, she is so very cute. Anyway, it was a nice break to just spend time with them

They seem calmer in their garage enclosure. There's better light, a bit more space, perches. I also (thanks to the BYC forums) started feeding them fermented grain as part of their daily diet. They chow it down and I see an improvement in their feathering (almost overnight). I'm not new to kitchen experiments so a bowl of bubbling grain on the counter is right up my alley.
