Ok, so in my coop, I’m finding that about once a month I have to do a little bit of a clean out. What drives me absolutely crazy are the bugs/roaches/etc that I tend to come across using the ‘litter’ as a home. Will this be a continuous issue? I put some diatomaceous earth in the cracks and crevices under fresh litter. May I also add, I FEAR roaches!!!

You may want to increase the amount of DE on the total floor surface. In my garage loft that I use for pigeons and chickens during winter, this is what I do. Thin layer of DE,, I use FOOD GRADE. About 1/16 of inch. I cover that with SWEET PDZ, about 1/4 inch. I then use hay over that. I have used pine shavings and straw, but hay is my FAV. Controls insects quite successfully. Be careful and don't breathe DE dust. Read precautions on label and follow.
DE acts like little razors and destroys insect's outer shells. PDZ keeps the DE dry. Wet DE is useless in fight against insects.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and:welcome
