Here are screenshots of our sketchup of our coop. We left the access hatch off for easy view of the inside.









It may look like overkill, but the coop will have a concrete foundation. Our property is on a slope with the level areas at the bottom. Water problems would make it difficult to maintain a coop/run. The alternative is as seen below. Due to the slope, the foundation helps to keep the framing level as well as make it hard for intruders to enter.


The fill inside the foundation is layered with earth, 1/4" stone roughly 12 to 18 inches thick, hardware cloth, 2 inches of stone on top, then (to be delivered) concrete sand. Framing will be attached to the foundation with 8 anchor bolts. Yes, we know, it's a chicken coop. My husband is worried about the heavy snows and winds that we sometimes get in New England.
