I'll have to check out chanteclers next year too. I'm kind of annoyed with myself because I had 11 cockerels hatched in the spring and some of them were Easter eggers/backyard mixes of some sort and they had really small combs. I'm not sure how big their combs would have ended up in the end, but they definitely weren't the big single combs that stick straight up.If you have a favorite cockerel or rooster that you are going to keep, maybe this would work for you for you during your coldest temps:

I thought this was a very creative solution. I know the vaselining the combs has been proven to do nothing, but this seemed to work for this BYC member.
Might want to look into Chanteclers, Canada's national chicken breed. I think the partridge variety is stunning.
However, I wanted to keep my purebred lavender orp. He was by far the nicest of the bunch too.
