I don't think ANYTHING works on carpet but back muscles and sunshine! If it's wall-to-wall, it's likely ruined. For removable rugs, if you can drag it outside, get it out of the basement as quickly as possible. If it's already smelling musty, that's probably what's making you sick. Cut it up and get it out of there asap. We tried everything, and never did get the musty smell out of the downstairs wood and rugs, even when they were dry. We ended up replacing the carpet, some of the wood and Kilz painting what was left. We would have saved a lot of effort (and money) if we'd just taken it out in the first place.
If the carpet's not in the basement, tell the chickens to call their insurance agent. I sure hope the coop is covered for floods!

@azygous I received the oxine this morning but I’m not sure what to do now. I don’t have foggier, is there any other way to use it effectively in this situation?

@MROO, thanks! I’ve been sick for 3 weeks now with sinus and ear infections and now it’s into my chest as of last week. Second round of antibiotics as of Tuesday so I don’t believe it’s from the basement but I’m sure it isn’t helping. We spent days shopvacing it and wind tunneling in the basement to get the moisture out. The carpet is commercial with no padding os I’d really like to save it if possible. We’ll see I guess

No problem with not having a fogger or vaporizer. Just mix 1.5 ounces of Oxine with a quart of distilled or boiled, sterilized water, pour into a quart spray bottle and spray into the face of the patient three or four times a day. It helps to cover the crate with a damp towel to confine the Oxine vapor.

Do you want to disinfect the coop and run? You may use 6.5 ounces of Oxine to one gallon of water in a garden sprayer to wet down surfaces. This is a "deactivated" mix and safe to use while chickens are present. It will keep pathogens from replicating but won't kill them.

To make an "activated" mixture, which is much more potent that will kill viruses, bacteria and mold spores, you need to wear a mask and remove your chickens while treating the coop and run, and not allow chickens to be in contact with the treated surfaces until completely dry.

Activate Oxine by adding citric acid (available in canning supplies aisle at grocery stores.) Measure 3.5 oz Oxine with 1 tablespoon citric acid. Wait five minutes until mixture turns yellow.

Immediately mix into one gallon of water and use immediately so mix doesn't oxidize before you finish treating facilities. Use a mask while spraying. Wait until completely dry before allowing chickens back in.
