I'm making a new coop with a wood floor and want to put down a protective layer. I am wondering what would work best a layer of vinyl or flex seal. I didn't know if the flex seal would be toxic at all.

I have a wood floor, covered with a tarp, covered with 1/2 rubber mats... covered with wood shavings. I did that partly to keep the wood from possibly getting wet (now I have a horizontal nipple waterer though) and to help reduce the cold from seeping in though the floor.

Silly question but when it came from flooring for chicks I remember hearing to not use news paper because it's too slippery. And hens can have leg/hip injuries too.
So aside from the convenience of cleaning I've been wondering why vinyl, tile and similar products are used?
