Coop from old wood fence?

We made our coup out of fence siding...

We are in NC and have been wondering if we need to cover the cracks between the boards or if it will work as additional ventilation...for now as summer seems to have gotten here earlier than usual, we've leaving as is...

How did it go? Any updates?

It's now 3 years old and the spaces between the boards have gotten wider. The past 2 winters, we have used feed bags to cover the inside, bottom 2/3 of the coop to cut down on drafts. Plus, we've had some super cold days - in the teens for multiple days in a row which is very unusual for us. The girls have faired really well, although our rooster (a Jersey giant) got frostbite the first winter. I still haven't figured how that happened when the girls with bigger combs didn't get frostbite...

Nice mitre saw.....wish I had a stand for mine.....I end up with the "scrap of plywood between 2 sawhorses" method.

It's not a great pic but I made my coop out of old pallets that I busted apart. I think it turned out pretty nice. I added a built in light socket at the top to put a light bulb in to add "daylight" during the winter. We don't get too cold in SC to have to worry about frost bite.

I'm picking up a little under 200' worth of 6' and 8' wood fence today. I'll be building a coop from same. I'll go with either batten and board or count on the gaps between the boards as ventillation for the chickens (it gets HOT in Texas). I've searched and searched and found a couple people who've done this, but I'm up for more ideas. The search terms required make it hard to find what I'm looking for, so I'd appreciate any links to other coops built with boards and/or an old wood fence.

Links and comments please!

I'll update this thread with pictures as I build the coop, which will house BLRW's - of which we currently have 10 which we hatched from eggs. In another couple weeks we'll know sex and who gets to occupy the coop long term...
I'm in the same boat. I'm in San Antonio and it's HOT! I have some old fencing and already found some options for flooring but have no idea how I want to make mine except I need to be able to walk in. I guess I better take notes an pics as I go along 😄😄
