coop height?

4'x~6'
4' to 3' sloped roof
4'roosting bar and 2 nesting boxes for six girls
on 30" legs and a 4'x8' pallet as the base so i can expand out if needed (was thinking about doing so anyways just for more room)

question is, is the inside of the coop tall enough at 4 foot being the peak?
Curious to hear peoples thoughts. They have good headroom on the roost, cleaning it isnt a problem for me and there hasnt been any comfinement issues (aside from pecking order stuff)

Sounds like the chickens are fine with the height and if you have no problem with clean out, then that's good as well. I don't see any vents in your coop though, so if anything that's what I would look into changing.

General location? Any plans to EVER get more? Coop space is minimal. How old are the birds? As they mature, you may find that the juvenile flock who gets along well this spring will be causing serious injury to each other in the coming seasons. Areas that have cold winters require extra diligence to space and ventilation needs.

Coop has serious lack of ventilation. General recommendation is 1 s.f. of ventilation per bird, or an area = to 10% of floor space. In your case, I'd go with the former. You should also have at least 1 window, 2 would be better. IMO, birds need natural light in their coop. There is not enough space above the roost. You should have at least 18" to prevent condensation and frost bite issues. The perch also needs to be at least 12" away from the back wall.

yea thats one thing i know i gotta do.. for right now theres 1" spaces all around between the roof rafters and the top of the siding. once i get trim on it ill get some better ventilation in

the angle is misleading i measured it out by those guidelines when building it. like i said its in the finishing stages and both window and better ventilation are on that list
in southern nj so not the coldest winters but still cold, not getting more until i have more property, birds have full access to 100 sq ft run and free range 1-2hrs daily.

like i said i can always build out if needed thats why i left the extra room. just curious about the height, if more is needed i figure i cound do both at the same time.

birds on left (closest) are older. the closest one (you see only her head) im not sure about she was a rescue but shes mature and full size; the next 3 are about 6 months old and the two little ones (farthest) are about two months old

Good to have ventilation up high and roosts far enough below so their heads aren't in the airflow in winter.

Mine is 12 ft x 16 ft x 14 ft. 12 ft high for purching upstairs 2nd floor

My coop is about 6x10 a and has over 6 square feet of ventilation. It was built for six chickens. Our rooster has his own pad. We have"rescue hens, and our roost holds our 11 medium size hens just fine but we can manage this because they are only inside to sleep or passing through on their way to the nest boxes.

Because the coop is small and the ventIlation isn't ideal. I do have to scoop the poop every second day. We use stall dry on the floor.
