Our coop is done and 4 of our girls have moved outside as of this morning. The run is still in the design phase, but will be done in a week or so hopefully. If you'd like to see photos, go here

I owe a million thanks to my husband for all his hard work on the coop when I know he has a million other projects around the house that need his attention. Also thanks to all the BYC posters who answered my coop questions in great detail and assisted us with making the best decisions for our flock.

I believe coop #2 will be in the works shortly, however we'll be using pallet material this time....

Very nice!

I especially like the pic of the two of you in front of it with the pitchfork...

Thanks, everyone! We just checked on the chicks and they are all huddled in the corner of the coop. I feel bad for them- like they've been kicked out of the house or something and now have to make it on their own without me or their warm back porch. I believe they are about 8 weeks old so they should be fine outside but its only going to be 50 degrees tonight so I'm concerned they're going to be cold. I need to let them fend for themselves I suppose- I cannot over mother them......

Great coop! Love that yellow color.

Your husband has done a marvelous job; really looks sturdy! Do you have a run planned, or will you free range?

Yes, the chicks will be just fine....

The chickens will have a run but we hope to free range them as much as possible. We have two dachshunds who I believe would love to have a chicken snack so I need to make sure the chickens are going to be safe when the dogs are out. I'll just keep them supervised, on a lead, and use the shock collar for my male dachshund if needed. You wouldn't believe that we have 20 chicks in the house right now and 2 cayuga ducklings- the duck house is the next project!!!
