Coop location. Venting.

How wide is your coop? Judgeing by the Pictures I would go wider if you can There isnt going to be much more cost invovled and down the road you are going to wish you did, I d go to the end of the concrete Maybe six inch back, a 12" of over hang is ok.

Yeah, gonna start over on the width, which at this point is going to be relatively easy.

I am going to use 2x6 for the trusses this time, and bump out to the recommended 6in from the concrete edge.

The 2x6 trusses will allow me to walk around up there, and provide a little heft to the structure as well. I suppose I might as well use hurricane straps too. Although the hills here pretty much negate any chance of tornadoes, there is a trailer park 1/3 of a mile down the road. xD

SO, I am calling it a complete do over. With the exception of the outside wall. I AM NOT REBUILDING IT! XD

Thanks for stopping me from being sorry I built it so small.

Heh, yeah. I did a reset. The hangar against the garage wall and the exterior wall are the only things staying the same.

I wasn't quite able to make it to the six inch mark from the edge of the concrete, but it is what it is. My 2x6 are only so long.

And I plan on spending on three things here: hinges, screws, and paint. Everything else is re purposed house trailer, and enameled nails. We got a package deal on feeders and water cans, and a bunch of hardware cloth and chicken wire (useless here), months ago.

Yeah thanks, I wish I could take credit for dog or chicken cuteness, but i can't. This dog is purpose bred for stock work, although she has only ever worked sheep for one day. She has almost NO predator/prey drive. I can't wait to see her watching over the chickens. xD

Thanks again. If it rains I will build my bump and man door wall inside this weekend, and have pictures of a skeleton Monday.

If not, tmarra night for sure.

Well folks it rained cats and dogs today, but I got my bump wall framed. Hopefully I can get something up this week, and then get skinning this weekend.

Thanks!

Soaking rain all night here. Still dribbling out there. I suppose I will do some painting......

Joe, as soon as it stops raining and the sun shines a bit, and I can get something up, pics it shall be!

Thanks!

Finally, bump out wall installed, back wall up, several trusses installed. Much bigger now. Dimensions and pictures tmarra, I promise!

Also, I bought a white gloss enamel that I am using to treat the plywood inside and out. 24 inches up from the floor inside, and 24 outside with the exception of the bump wall which is on the weather side of the coop.

Here's the poop on the interior walls:

I have lots of wainscoting around, and was planning on using it for the interior walls. Anyone have any problems with that?

Also I am going to build my nests boxes out of an old ping pong table, 3/4 pressboard. Which I plan on painting with a suicide mix of all my remaining latex remnants.

Thanks!

After several days of rain, here is what we got done Friday.

Coop is approximately square, I know I KNOW. Your thinking Riiiiiiiiight, but it is really. approx. 12' 6"W & L and the back wall is 81 " tall.

Hopefully everything will be dried out enough tmarra to get the rest of the trusses up, and maybe throw on stringers and the roofing.

Thanks
