Oh I haven't painted it yet. This is the color the walls came. You can leave them this color, but I wanted something more girly and fun so I went with a peach color. I am going to try it out today to see how it looks. I haven't quite figured out the fencing off near the door yet but I have a couple weeks before we put the runs in. Thanks for that hint that I need to prevent them from coming out when I go in. For all the planning, there are always little details that escape you. We did talk about raising it and putting wire, but in the end, I decided that was just too much draft for them. Our winters have been getting a lot colder and nastier so I wanted something completely enclosed. I thought about auto door opening things too of all kinds, but in the end, I wanted my mind at ease that the doors are securely latched. I check and double check usually, lol. After putting the door hardware on last night we discovered that the latch they give you is just not secure enough in my mind so we are adding two more, one at the top and one at the bottom. The single latch allows the bottom of the door to be pulled open enough to for a small animal to get in or my dogs to dig at it and eventually rip the latch off. I have not lost a chicken to a predator yet and I don't plan on doing so!

looks good, i like that color. I am done painting now we can start the work on the inside. i was thinking of using a trunk or a toy box for the laying box and not put any dividers in it but not sure that would be big enough.

We are 1 weekend away from moving the girls into their new coop. It has been back-breaking work and I will be so happy to be done with it, but I love my coop so much

Hubby has really come through and put it all together for me.

Some updated pics from the past week...

Roof is on, vents are in, temporary fences are going up. We built a double temporary fence across the side facing the yard for now so hubby can work back there installing the permanent fence and gate without having to deal with the dogs or chickens.

Triple locks are installed, 2 of them keyed (NOTHING is getting into my coop if I can help it). You would literally have to rip the doors off the hinges to get them open. The same as the chicken doors. The bolts go deep into the floor on the inside of the coop.

Temporary window until I find the real window I want for the right price. It will be double this size and have real glass and a screen with hardware cloth inside. It might have curtains too like in another thread here

Floor is painted and sealed, roost poles are almost finished and the temporary introduction pen is complete. The temporary section can be easily removed and reinstalled as needed for new additions to the flock. Their roosting poles will be side by side and only divided by the chicken netting. The lowest roost pole will be very near the floor as I have Silkies now and I learned they do not fly. I will probably make a nest on the floor for them as well near the back wall.

I completely forgot about chicken ramps, lol thankfully hubby didn't and made them today. The fencing of the two runs is completely temporary right now and as secure as we can make it. The outside fence (where the outer row of posts are going in) will come from the old coop which is covered in chicken wire and hardware cloth. We will bury it and put the railroad ties up against. In another month or two, the whole run area will be enclosed in an 8ft high wood structure with buried hardware aprons and retaining walls. I will be covering my entire run areas with bird netting as well, now and when the new fence goes up. There were hawks circling as we were building the coop!

The only thing left to do is touch up some paint and paint the trim, install the last fencing, move the roost poles and nest boxes being used by the girls now and transport the girls over. Oh, and plant the cute little flower and herb garden in front of it plus decorate the outside with signs and whatnot
