That's the chicken patio, lol

Beautiful coop & great job! And I'm so glad to hear that you're going with covered runs on it too - smart girl!

And what a nice husband too! Do you rent him out per chance? lol...

Please post photos again when you've got it all completed with the runs. I'd like to see the split run idea you have...

Thanks for sharing!

I'm pretty sure I'd be sleeping in the coop (though it certainly is nice enough!) if I suggested renting him out...though it did cross my mind during this project how much a person could make by constructing coops and runs for people! It is a lot of hard work and for those who just want someone else to do it, there is money to be made.

I have since decided against splitting the runs, so the run is done other than "decorating" with rocks and such. I have 30 chickens now and I decided to not deal with trying to cut down their space and switch them back and forth. I also decided after having a small garden this year, gardening is just not my love...chickens are. I couldn't wait to rip out my garden and feed it to the girlies!

I'd like to try planting grass and fencing them off from it in the spring though, but it will be just little sections.

As far as the netting...thank you

It was by far the cheapest predator protector of the project - $30 for two rolls. My husband thinks I'm crazy. Today, as the hawks were circling above, he said next weekend we are installing anti-hawk machine guns on the roof of the coop, each child will be taking an 8 hour shift, lol. I also get a lot of ribbing about the triple locks on my main door, the thick bolts that hold the chicken doors locked every night and the fact I am out there locking up the girls at the first sign of dusk but I refuse to take any chances with my girls. It would kill me if I lost one of them due to not doing my best to protect them.

Your coop is beautiful, sounds like you are blessed like me with a handy dandy honey and helpful kids. My coop is very similar to yours and I too double lock the big front doors, then I put a boulder type rock in front of it.DH laughs..We also have 8ft privacy fence all ard the run and they go in and out through those little doors like you have.I do have a inside door on the little door and then DH put a door on the outside w/a latch..Extra peace of mind for me.After seeing the fox on top of the one byc er's roof, cant be secure enough.Have yours all adjusted to the move? It took mine awhile and it wasnt really a move,we just took down walls and made it bigger. We were new to this when we got our girls and had divided the shed into 1/4 for them and used the rest for storage.Since we are increasing our flock we now have 3/4 of it for the girls and 1/4 for feed and chicken stuff. The top of our run is covered w/heavy guage fence and nailed to the top n of the fence and the same is under ground. We have alot of coyotes, fox, racoons and oppossums ard here and it makes me nervous.I too lock them in at 7;45-8pm and let them out ard 7 am..We also have chairs in the run and sit and have our coffee w/the girls.I too love my babies...I need to get some landscaping done ard the coop n fence/run.My Dh n kids laugh at me as well for being so over protective, but like you they are my spoiled babies. You did a great job and will be soo glad you did the extra's.Enjoy.

Yikes! A fox on the roof? That would scare the you know what out of me! Thankfully, we live in town and the most I really worry about are the raccoons and similar type predators. My dogs would probably be the next, but the fence to the yard was built with them in mind so I feel good. The girls have been living over there since we first put the coop up back in late May I think? We had temporary fencing up then (earlier photos in the thread) but I am very glad to have the 8ft fence up. I wanted something more secure for them and more privacy for us. We are still in the first years of probably a 10 year long yard/house project (was supposed to be 5 years lol) and have been living without a fence and grass for 4 years now. When we put in sod and fix up the yard more, I want to put in better furniture for viewing/enjoying them, but for now, the chairs work. We also have stools we sit on inside the run. I keep all my supplies for them in the garage since there is a door from the garage that leads into their run. It makes it nice to have two entrances - the gate and the door - and I feel safer keeping their food in there and it allows me to give them more space which means I can get more chickens
