I am so thrilled with my coop I could just burst every time I look at it! My husband and family did such a great job of making it a reality for me.

My husband was opposed to the separated coop because he didn't think it would work, but once he figured out a design, he was totally into it, lol. He went above and beyond what I even expected

I made the mistake of taking my 6 week old bantams and silkies out today for some sun and they didn't want to come back in, lol. They were just too cute running around in the dirt and up and down the ramp. I was so enthralled with them, I forgot to take photos! Soooo they are in the separated area now and the little girls are back with the big girls. All seems to be going ok and it has to happen sooner or later.

I'm headed out to watch some chicken TV with a cold beer

Yeah!!!!
Great job, turned out fabulous. I will be showing all this to my hubby when he gets home tomorrow to start on the inside of my coop.

Well, about 5 months after the project was started, my coop is finally done (is it ever really though??? lol). I thought I would post the final photos so I could brag about what an amazing husband...and family...I have

It has been a group effort all summer long to get everything perfect....just the way I wanted it...and most importantly, safe for my flock. In the 2 years that I have been raising chickens, I have a 0% loss to predators and I plan to keep that record!

The fence is 8ft high and surrounded by buried and cemented retaining wall blocks. The fence facing the yard is buried and filled with gravel, lined with hardware cloth top to bottom and supported top, bottom and middle by 2x4s. The entire 26ft x 23ft run is covered with bird netting, secured to the 8ft fence, coop and garage by boards. My husband just finished the "patio" today to keep the girlies...and boys now, lol...dry in the winter and shaded in the summer (I think the back wall would be perfect for a large screen tv for them, but I think I might be pushing my luck

) The patio also protects the chicken doors which tended to leak when the rain ran down the side of the coop.

I have a solid window now, covered with hardware cloth inside and out. I'm working on getting a pull down shade in there for them

plus it helps trick my rooster into being quiet for longer in the mornings (I didn't have the heart to get rid of him so I am coming up with ideas to make his presence more acceptable to the neighborhood - so far so good!) Other than some re-landscaping with the rocks, planting some plants near the fences and hanging some pots filled with plants from the garage so they can nibble on and buying some a couple vintage tin signs for the coop...it's done and I am ecstatic and so grateful to my hubby and kids. They are beyond amazing. They made my dreams come true
