2 sq ft really should only be used for bantams. For full sized chickens it's best not to go smaller than 4 sq ft each.Inside the coop, a chicken should have about 2-4 sq feet per chicken. I have 4 chickens, and their coop is 16 sq feet total so they each get 4 sq feet each. So it’s really up to you on how much space you want to provide. If you want to build a simple coop for the 5 chickens, make the coop 10 sq feet or if you can, you can make it 20 sq feet. If you are going to make it a smaller coop, I recommend to put in plenty of roosts and enough space for them to spread their wings in their run. Wish the best in your chicken coop project!!
As big as you can make it, in case you add more or if your in a cold snowy climate and they don't want to come out, if you don't have a covered run. Build it once, instead of having to build a bigger one later or add on to the existing one.
