coop slash run size

Not true I have an uncle in the commercial egg buisness

What ridgerunner described is actually a very common management approach for commercial laying flocks. While your uncle's (or that of others in the business) management approach may differ, it does not mean that the information provided is untrue - just as with BYC flocks, commercial producers each have their own way of doing things. Perhaps you can share where your uncle's approach differs so we have information on the alternative management style(s) you are aware of?

Quote:Using commercial housing as a comparison to the appropriate housing arrangements for a home flock is the most utterly ridiculous thing I have read in quite some time. Just because you *can* cram x number of birds into x amount of spaces does not mean it is appropriate or good management practice. I have not at all "forgotten" the run that is available in my personal assessment of the proposed flock additions.
First off I was just trying to make a point.... Second my hens are healthy and happy, they can go in to the coop which is also a run that's fully covered even has a metal roof. I was simply trying to point out that the birds would be ok. Square feet per bird varies greatly all across the country, same as next box space. I have had flocks of birds that have 10 boxes only use 2 even though some book says 3 birds per box. Same with roost space no matter how much you give them they all sit right next to each other even though it says some where they need triple the space they use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
