Folks,

Just moved our new 2 month old chicks to the new coop I built. Didn't want to spend a few hundred on an auto door system and all of that. So I designed a sliding door on a rope/ pulley system. This allows me to open or close the sliding door from the porch 75 foot away. I feel this system needs an auto latching device so the raccoons can't get in. I thought I saw a home made wood latching system but can not find it now, any suggestions?

Thanks,
Randy in Durham, NC

Hmmm that's pretty cool!

I want to see a video of your 75 feet of chicken door rope :D

Well the chicks moved into the new coop tonight and the 75 foot rope system latched them in just fine. Once it dries up here I'll have to build this auto latching system to make them more secure. Now to get my two adult chickens to join them, they are still using the smaller coop in a fenced area next to the chicks.
