Coop toy for your chickens!!!!!

you not kidding! My girls are going through a tone right now. I miss having a garden.

Mine are too but I found out why. I was in the coop yesterday and noticed the my 17 lb feeder was nearly empty (filled it before tucked everyone in for the night) Well a couple of them were pecking at it and the little burgers where just pushing the pellets out of the feeder and going for the smaller pieces. While others were scratching around looking for the scratch I throw I noticed what appeared to be about 4 lbs or more on ground of coop. To make a long story short I will be switching to crumbles. And keep an eye on whats going on in there better.

My girls go through crmbles WAY TOO FAST!!! I put one 50lb bag between two feeder and that night it was gone!!! I usually feed pellets but it was on sale. I'm never feeding crumbles again to these girls. Pellets for ever.

I read on BYC that some have had trouble converting to pellets. Their chooks would not eat them for days on end. I have some pellets for laying that I had already bought. Have not yet gotten thru the grower-finisher crumbles for mine but they began to lay at 4 months so they have been on grower-finisher for 2 months now and laying like gangbusters. Anyway, reading that, I started mixing crumbles/pellets and have had no trouble. They gobble up the pellets too. Am going to eventually go to pellets 100% because I suspect they do not get stale as fast. (I routinely have no less than 8 months supply on hand.) Hope that cuts feed bill somewhat. May not see any reduction until growing season comes and they can once again get fresh greens.

I have 24 pullets large laying breeds and I use 50# crumbles every 9 days up to maybe two weeks ago.

I put a head of cabbage in with my 24 pullets last week. It disappeared in 30 minutes, like time-lapse photography. It was more like a sacrificial cow in a river full of piranhas!
