I think I am going to use the Duramax Sidemate shed as the starting point for my custom build.

I started out with a small coop. Then I bought a 10 x 10 x 6 ft, dog pen and the tarp to cover it. Then I added another dog pen the same size. I covered that with the mesh to keep out predators. Then next my husband found a new coop that was 12 x 7 Ft. It is all in the yard and connected as if it was only one coop.

I bought one from tractor supply that said house 8. Mines nice don’t get me wrong just don’t trust the number of chickens they say 5 in mine is probably pushing it.

I’m no coop expert but you can have someone build a larger framed coop pretty cheaply. Just make sure you use hardwire NOT chicken wire.
Ventilation is key. Much more than 50% of my coop is open. I put curtains up in the winter. It can be below freezing much of the winter.

We started with the homestead coop from tractor supply and did some major reinforcing to the assembled structure. We added more locks/safety latches, corner plates, painted it, and mounted the whole thing on a 4x4 frame. Then we built an extension out of 2x2 wood and 1/2” hardware cloth with a hinged lid that also locks that is 8’ x 4’. We attached them so the four hens can go in and out of both as they please during the day. Seemed like a good solution for us since we’re not that handy, not that many chickens and it was much easier for us to start with an existing structure! Good luck!
