I do wood working as a hobbie and I have made a few coops in the past, My question is would people buy custom coops at reasonable prices? I am wanting to start a small bobbie business making coops along with my other wood working projects. Any suggestions to weather or not this would be feasible would any one on BYC buy one? Should I start a contest? Let me know what you think. Thank you! Cameron

I believe if you were to make a few and sell them very reasonable at first to get them out there I believe it could work cause chicken people know chicken people. Problem where I live the builders are asking outrageous prices so I believe not to many are making it to the targeted clientele.

same here they are ridiculous in the pricing. Do you think I could sell some on BYC also if I set a link to my website I am going to create

Couldn't hurt to try. Maybe build a couple designs 1/3 scale or so put them on a trailer and go park it for the day in selected spots so ladies would see it, and it would be perfect for her backyard, cause her husband that works a lot surely wouldn't have time to build one.

I wanted to try that with hoop pens but after more thought I would be targeting retired men looking for something to build with there retirement money. That's basically who raises game chickens where I live.

Quote: If you figure the cost of materials in the fancy looking coops many people expect, and THEN add in a decent amount for labor, the price SEEMS "outrageous", but is really pretty reasonable.

Great idea, just finished my first coop. Total cost was about 79 in materials, but my labor is worth far more!
