Chix-in-GA it is very exciting that you are investing in having these eggs brought over and that it's on the up and up, and the thought that some of us here may eventually be able to get stock from you in the future is just awesome! Whooo Hoooo!
You originally posted for an opinion about Marans? Well, my goodness! They're the greatest! Not just Pretty birds, but the most desireable eggs that chickens lay? What more can you ask for? Of course we're gonna encourage you to bring some more lines over...I think it's been a while since that's happened, and it's important to keep a journal of your efforts, so that your imported lines can be monitored and integrated into the U.S. records as well...The existing lines are fairly well documented in places - you know, you could add to the ongoing historical dialogue like ones I've seen like this:
Wilburn
From Bill Braden (1/05) Frank Wilburn told me that he got his
birds from Jack Fugate when he moved to Mexico and that Jack traveled the
world over and he would bring him Marans eggs from time to time.He said him and Jack and A genetics man from Iowa worked together. He said the marans that he settled on were from eggs Jack brought from Belgium. He is in his late nineties and has A very sharp quick mind.
Perth
From Bill Braden (1/05)
All I know about the Perth line is that they came from Australia
Fitch
From Bill Braden (1/05) The Fitch line came from
Lowell Barber. He talked Bill Fitch into breeding them to help get them going
in the U.S.Bill told me that he never did really like the Marans but kept
them because he wanted to help Mr.Barber keep them going.
Terry Kellerman
bought Bill Fitch out in 1995 if I remember correct.
"
I love that history stuff, and you'll actually be making it! Welcome and keep us posted!!
You would be able to say you brought your eggs in this year, and call the lines yours, etc!! How cool, I really look forward to this new beginning....
